Re: MAIW RKAI Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion Conversion Support (P3D)
How does using a non-AI plane (or helicopter in this case) in place of a true AI model affect performance in the sim? I do want to use this model, but if it will turn my sim (P3D v5) into a slide show or something like that I wouldn't want to use it.

Mike Cronin made this model with the intention to use it both ways. We consider converting only models that do not affect your sim negatively when used as AI. But be aware that there is a real CH-53 AI made by Menno. You find it in the download hanger as well.
Cheers,
Martin

Gentlemen, this is not the "normal" twin-engine CH-53, this is the heavy 3-engine CH-53E.
Martin, I think you need to add the letter "E" to the description and to the header for this thread.

Mike Cronin made this model? I thought Rory Kelly made it? Anyway, I did not know this was a model that could be used as both AI and no AI. I thought it was a fully flyable model being used.
I have the Menno model already, but that didn't have the E model.
Re: MAIW RKAI Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion Conversion Support (P3D)
Martin may correct me here, but as far as I know this is a flyable C/M/RH-53E for FS9, made by Rory Kelly. The conversion to an AI FSX/P3D C/M/RH-53E is something you do yourself by going into the _patch folder included and running the batch file in there.
I made this conversion myself some time ago with MCX v. 1.6, and the end result looked reasonably good, but this one is far better.

You should not publish late in the night, and you should not reply during work hours....
1. Naturally, this is from Rory Kelly
.
2. Yes, this is a self-conversion. I have introduced this feature for our special packages. But it does not convert a flyable aircraft to an AI, but allows the user to make a conversion to an FSX or PP3D model without any technical knowledge. We use this if we cannot contact the author for his approval to distribute a converted model.
.
3. Yes, I need to add the E for clarification. In case I have missed that yesterday evening, I will also correct this in the download center.

Re: MAIW RKAI Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion Conversion Support (P3D)
Whoever created this conversion package never asked me for permission to include my repaints into this package.
And if this person does so anyway at least my name could be written correctly in the documentation.
The statements in chapter 1 of the documentation are nonsense.
It was already explained here that the model was never created as an AI model by Rory Kelly but as a flyable model.
I don't really know what Mike MacIntyre and John Young had to do with the flight dynamics.
The model uses a "stemme_as_helicopter_2" FDE which was created by "Holger Sandmann and Doug Callihan based on Stemme motor glider by Al Kaiser" (quote taken from the aircraft.cfg)

That was me, Hartwig, as with all our released packages. I thought we had an agreement that we could use your paints for our conversion packs. This is obviously not the case and I have removed your paints from the package and apologize for the misunderstanding, which is mine alone.
Johns light effects are used. Mike's effect was replaced by a P3D default effect, and I missed to remove his name. Thanks for letting me know.
As stated in chapter 1: These people created the flight dynamics and effects used in this package:

Yes, I take great pains to document in each header the manufacturer of the FDE and who did the paints. The painter is also mentioned in the description of each fltsim.x.
Cheers,
Martin

Had all the repaints prior in the renewed RK CH-53E thread, but was stuck on the rotors not turning in sim. Picked my way through MCX and still couldn't get turning blades. Thanks for the fixes and pilot visibility conditions.

Re: MAIW RKAI Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion Conversion Support (P3D)
The instructions are a bit light, fellas. So just grab one of the CH53.mdl files and drag it over onto the convert.bat file?
Having done this, I notice that it populates the model into all 4 model folders. Is this correct? Just need to convert of them and the batch file takes care of it from there?
If so, then great - this is truly idiotproof.
Huge Thanks to all, Mason Curling and all the painters. Respect.

That is correct, after running the batch file should have 4 model folders.

No need to drag and drop, Mark. Just run the batch and you are done.
Cheers,
Martin

Re: MAIW RKAI Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion Conversion Support (P3D)
Not sure if maybe I did this correctly. The helo flies with its tail still folded.
Will try to capture some screen shots.
EDIT: Sorry no issue here after all, at least now using the AI helo with a regular traffic file (as intended). I was trying to use it within a saved mission, and starting in flight, and that apparently doesn't work well with this one. No worries, thanks.

Re: MAIW RKAI Sikorsky CH-53 Super Stallion Conversion Support (P3D)
The tail fold animation is rigged to the nav lights... One of the issues (among many others) I found during my initial testing was that there was no electrical section in the aircraft.cfg which caused the AI model to simulate itself as having no lighting or any other electrical related systems; as well as there were various other performance and handling issues with the flight model. So using the original aircraft.cfg when I first tested it, the nav lights would not come on, the tail would stay folded, and the crew would not appear, also the flying looked horrible... The aircraft.cfg in my conversion fixes all these issues...
