Re: MAIW NBAI McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet Family Conversion Support

Post by gsnde »

I just checked the two P3D conversion packs V.1.1:

MAIW NBAI McDonnell Douglas F-18 Hornet Carrier & FCLP - P3D Pack-1 V.1.1
MAIW NBAI McDonnell Douglas F-18 Hornet Land - P3D Pack-1 V.1.1

They call

nbai_f18c-d_hornet_dry_ai_only carrier. Air
NBAI_F18C-D_Hornet_Dry_AI_ONLY.air

The FSX conversion also call NBAI_F18C-D_Hornet_Dry_AI_ONLY.air

So which package are you using?
Cheers,
Martin

Hi,

[fltsim.586]
title=NBAI_F18C_VFA-82_AB-300 Folding Wings Hook Only
sim=NBAI_F18C-D_Hornet_Dry_AI_ONLY FCLP
model=C_Transit_Tanks Folding Wings Hook Only
texture=VFA-82_300
atc_airline=SCAR
atc_parking_codes=V82
atc_parking_types=MIL_COMBAT
ui_manufacturer=Nick Black AI
ui_type=F/A-18C Hornet
ui_variation=USN - VFA-82 AB-300
sound=
visual_damage=1

This a copy of the cfg from the package I downloaded "Carrier Group Scenery Release Package"
It is in the F18 file, there are 210 entries from 586 to 798.
It then changes to the Carrier package starting 1385

Nope, I don't think you do. It looks like the Carrier package adds the same aircraft like the conversion pack.

I am not involved with the Carrier pack. I suggest to either remove the Hornets from the conversion pack and leave the Carrier Hornets or the other way round.

Since you had issues also with the air file I would try the Conversion Hornets first.
Cheers,
Martin

I can confirm that the carrier pack adds the same aircraft as the conversion pack.

And I took out the duplicates from the conversion pack also...

Testing some P3Dv5 animation issues, F-18C shore take-off with stabs trailing edge down (stick full forward) verse the trimmed trailing edge up/rudders toe-in/flaps half take off.

Ok after some testing I am happy to report that this was not a model issue... But rather an aircraft.cfg issue meaning it will be easily fixed. I figured it was since the Super Hornet series and these hornets use the exact same animation coding and the stabs on the Supers look fine... Please use the attached aircraft.cfg file adjust the fltsim.x entries as necessary or just copy and paste all the non-fltsim.x entries into your current aircraft.cfg...

Thanks for taking look at these, I do enjoy watching the new animations as subtle as they are. I'm sure most have seen a Hornet landing on the carrier and all the flight control surface movement. On that note, were there any changes in the AI airfiles from FS9 to P3D to get away from the base "airliner" dynamics? Like the tricks to the carrier versions, I was wondering if bank angle adjustments could be changed without causing other issues.

The short answer to this is not really... While the g limit parameters; max speed and max mach parameters were all increased in the .cfg; to my understanding, the AI engine uses default autopilot limit parameters and that is what gives these aircraft the "airliner behaviors" you mentioned... Hence the reason addons with tacpack based AI while they maybe able to act a little bit more aggressively will not act like "taunting adversaries" classic example the SU-27 scenarios included with the Aerosoft F-14X...

Anyway back to the core of the topic... I have found a way to include some of the NBGAI features into the NBAI Hornets so in addition to fixing / re-compiling the Super series; I will work on some upgrades to the legacies as well... Small teaser:

So I have completed all my testing for the various Hornet packages and will not only make some corrections but some upgrades as well... These are the NBAI (not GAI) being tested. I think I am pretty happy with this new result... Since I will be doing these one by one in the stable version of MCX not the dev version it will take me a little more time to compile these since I will be going "one by one"... Hopefully I will be ready to release this update in the coming weeks...

An update package to these models has been uploaded to the file library V.3.0. All aircraft have been re-compiled using a legacy / stable version of MCX; improved cockpit effects / lighting; improved engine exhausts; improved effects; and the working airbrake... A special thanks to Dan Reeves for fixing a few of the repaints so the are now compatible with the new airbrake! When installing these new models make sure you overwrite all previous textures... This also applies to the Supers / Growlers and will apply to the GAI packages...

Next I will make some improvements to the GAI series Hornets and then I hope to be done with Hornets forever.... As these packages are a total of 844 models consisting of 316 NBAI Legacies; 372 GAI Legacies; and 156 Supers / Growlers...

Update packages for the GAI Hornets have been uploaded now as well; updates are as follows:

1. Updated airbrakes and animations for better fit on C and D fuselage; also updated the airbrake movement so the weird bleed through of the hydraulic actuator no longer happens (that was left over from previous versions not mine)...

2. Better effects and positioning; and updated cockpit effects

3. Fuselage improvements on C and D models.
