...these are ready for when it comes, Please make it happen ( MSFS 2024 !!!! )
It really is hard to believe that these are AI Aircraft. They have been exhibited in a " flyable " state for demonstration purposes only.

I have always found Johns AI models to be exceptional and that is why we simply must preserve them for the future. Whilst you look at the images below, its worthwhile remembering that they are the very same models first seen in FS9, FSX / P3d and now MSFS2020 and hopefully seen in MSFS2024 soon too.

Since the relatively early days of his designing, John included a paint-kit with the release of his many, many models done over the years.
It is because of this, that we are able to develop John's hard work and add the latest techniques used by the rendering engine as well.
These days this is known as PBR, and although not totally new, it can really help to bring out the best of those visuals.

Steve,

I seem to remember, you asked the question, " What about in the wet ?? " -

Well its just been raining on the Norfolk / Suffolk border.

...and its now dried up a bit !

The PBR never ceases to amaze me, so damn versatile but we have so much control too.

Very nice indeed Pete. What have you discovered about AI functionality in FS2024 so far? Are flight plans working to schedule?

Hi John,

Happy New Year my friend !!

Sorry for the late reply, I have been on the TUI and also been busy with DIY stuff, you know how it is LOL !!

After being fortunate enough to at least see a glimpse of the new SIM when Adam was invited into the Tech Alpha release, I thought that we were really
onto something here, because it really did take your breath away literally !

Of course, then there was the actual release on the 19th of November last year. Well, I am absolutely sure you are aware of how that went and probably also where we are at the moment regarding the current state of MSFS2024. ( A lot of problems. )

We'll leave the rest of it aside and just focus on the AI Aircraft element just for a minute.
To be perfectly honest, a minute is probably too long, because practically nothing whatsoever has been done with the AI Engine within MSFS2024, to change anything that we had in MSFS2020. If anything, specifically for our needs, its actually worse.

For the sheer hell of it, I had a little time over Christmas, to see if a JYAI model could be compiled, using the new SDK.
What you are seeing above in the shots, is kind of a ' Hybrid ' model, so a legacy MSFS2020 compliant model, but with the new MSFS2024 compliant KTX2 Texture format. The F-15'S certainly look the part if nothing else.

The flyable F-15C being demonstrated, uses exactly the same XML coding ( Model Behaviour etc ) as the AI version of the F-15C and at least everything is working exactly the same as it did in MSFS2020. I did however, have to do a lot of tweaking to the Aircraft Lights ( effect files ), as the new Sim doesn't appear to support them fully any more.

Where do we go from here ??? , I just don't know as the AI Offline feature of MSFS has been broken since SU13 in MSFS2020 and rather disappointingly, it is still broken in MSFS2024.

Happy new year Pete and thank you for your concise, but informative evaluation.

I can't justify the £100-£200 FS2024 price tag, when I already have FS2020 that I rarely use these days - it's just too cumbersome to manage for very infrequent use. FS2024 might be a viable option if I did a lot of sim flying for pleasure, but I hardly do any because my time is spent on designing for FSX and P3D. It seems that designing AI that remains broken in both the later sims would be a huge amount of work for little usable return. The lack of any interest displayed in FS2024 in this forum, tends to reinforce that. I'll stick with what I am doing for now, alas.

If only we could have the stunning appearance of the aircraft, as you have recently demonstrated, with the functionality of an AI engine developed 20 years ago for FS9 that would be quite something!

I would tend to agree there, John.
What is achievable in '24 is remarkable but it is hampered by the shear scale of the project. With FS9 it was far more limited so they could get resources to address issues.

At the moment on the official '24 forums it tends to be a lot of people sounding off on how bad it is and demanding that the core be fixed, not something that I would disagree with, and at the same time there are dozens of individuals requesting what I would call small or fringe niceties.

Some people just seem to think that Asobo have hundreds of people just sitting around doing nothing. Reality is that they will always address the most pressing issues first. What complicates the AI issue in '24 is the introduction of Career Mode which is designed to pull in gamers rather than flightsimmers. So AI has been moved further down the pecking order.

For me, I have got into VR after getting a good deal on A Quest 3 from the Amazon Warehouse.
It really changes flying - from the cockpit especially.
