Phlock of Phreaking Phantoms Phorever

Hello All,

I don't post too much, just don't have the time, what with all of the modeling I seem to have my nose in these days; plus the odd paint or two.... Anyways, I am nearing final production on my F-4K/M mod of Nick's F-4E model; at least, Steve is running out of things I got wrong to point out, lol. Anyways, here are some early M models in service of the RAF in the early 70s, back when I was drawing aircraft and using something called a darkroom...... I'll try to post more regularly, just bear with me as I fall into this technology hole..... Enjoy the preview.

Like I said, I am new to this posting, and I don't post every little thing; I'm not that much of an instant-information person. That being said, I am doing the late M model paints this week, and final beta-testing of the models and loadouts with a chum or two. I want to release the K (RN) package very soon, like in the next week. We'll see about the rest, but I hope to have all British variants out the door to AVSIM in the next month. Then I can get the USN/USMC J/S finished up (with a dedicated F-4J-27MC Blue Angels model all its own), and go back and apply everything I learned on the Brit project back to my original B/C/D/N packages.

I have a bunch of other stuff in the works, some is mod and some might actually be original (who would've thunk I could do it....). My office is becoming quite the skunk works...... it always was from the painting, but now with modeling........

Later,
Mike P.

To All,

The Phantoms are coming back...... Just got back from a lovely week in New Mexico (one state east of home), helping out with a wildfire at a ski resort (11,000 feet, ouch....). I came back right in step with my normal days off, so I had some time to breath before going back to regular shift. I am hammering out the v2 C/D models this week, I am trimming the loadout count a little, but I am adding VFR models and a truly obscene number of paints for each package. I am on a quest to paint a couple of examples from most every major USAF/USAFE/ANG/AFRES unit, and I am about two-thirds there. I won't guarantee 100% completeness in units, I'm smart enough to not try that, lol..... Oh, and the ROKAF and EdA will be there now, in several variations, along with the IIAF/IRIAF. These are slightly re-mapped models, so the old paints won't work (unless you like background-colored canopy frames and wingtip slime lights, lol). Also, a lot more 'whittling' work has been done to the physical model, completely ridding it of that pesky E-model gun bay that was the bane of my first release series. These models also have the three-section LE flaps, which is another add-in from those E-model wings I started with.

This is going to be a nice segway to the full RAF Phantom release, coming before the end of summer. Then, back to v2 B/N models, and finishing out with J/S models.

...Plus the usual projects for Miljan and John S.

Later,
Mike P.

I have a question. As far as I can find, the Fleet Air Arm Phantoms had the US style tail while the RAF ones had that block on it. Can you possible tell me if they had any of the other tails like your paints are?

All the RN and RAF Phantoms were delivered with the standard vertical tail. In the mid to late 70's the RAF added RWR suite to the airplane and thats where the modified tail with the "block style" top comes from.

Absolutely correct. The Ks and Ms were modified for that purpose. The Js were never modified in this manner.

So the block tail FAA models are for show i assume?

No if they had the square tail fins then they had the RWR equipment installed. The FAA had the same installation as the RAF.

The J's however never had the gear installed even though they had the fairings on the intakes.
