Website/forums downtime: Thursday, August 20th (finished)

Post by Greg »

The Military AI Works website and forums will be down for scheduled maintenance on Thursday, August 20th 2015 as from 10:00 UTC.

We plan to transition to a new website platform and newer version of the phpbb forum software during this downtime.

This should take no more than a few hours but could be extended if problems arise. As always, tune into our Facebook page and/or Twitter channel for updates.

The forums have been upgraded to the latest phpBB version (as you probably noticed  ) and the new website is up.

Read the article here.

Small update: I'm having some trouble with the latest version of the Tapatalk pluging so I had to disable it for now. Hopefully they will come up with a fix soon.

After many hours of fiddling with the latest Tapatalk extension, I decided to try an older version and it should now be working again for you guys. :smt101

One other thing: if you have an official MAIW banner in your signature, it may not be showing up correctly. If so, go to your signature settings, find the path to the image and change /Image/ to /image/.

If you see any other issues, please let me know!

Greg,
Something I just found about by accident.

I haven't been able to logon to the forum until now. The reason is that I use Firefox and it seems that the new setup is not friendly to the cookies that Firefox keeps.

What I had to do was go into Tools>Options>Privacy and hit the Show Cookies ... button.
Once there I had to search for everything 'militaryaiworks' and delete all the cookies.

Now it works. If I didn't check using my tablet then I would still think the site was down.

I am thinking the best way to get the message out is to post on the front page. You can get to that but not the forums or anything else.
Steve

Thanks for the info, Steve. It would seem that most problems are indeed caused by old browser caches and cookies, so I would advise everyone who's encountering problems to clear those first.

It just took me over an hour to finally get into the new forums and be able to post. In all the forums I visit I have never had this problem before. Hopefully this is just growing pains and I've got it mastered now. :x

Hello all, I didn't touch nothing about my avatar and my signature and they are ok, but I can't find the path of the MAIW banner and how to change it.
    Can someone help pls?
Another question, reading the forum from my tablet or iPhone, I can't enlarge the page. It will be possible in the future?

    Thanks, Giorgio

    Hi Giorgio!

For the banner: click on your account name in the top-right corner of the forum and select "User Control Panel". Go the the "Profile" tab and then "Edit Signature". You'll see the path to the banner. As posted above, look for /Image/ and change it to /image/as the path is now case sensative.

Regarding resizing: the new forum template is now responsive and should resize according to your device. I guess that's the reason you no longer can "zoom-in", but I will look it up. As an alternative, you can also use Tapatalk on your mobile devices.

New website looks great, and after some cache/cookie cleaning I can get to the forum again. Small problem when I try to download from the "Download Hangar", I get this:

"reCAPTCHA plugin needs a site key to be set in its parameters. Please contact a site administrator."

I'm running Chrome, on win8.1, but get the same error using internet exploder...

    Sean,
Which file were you trying to download?

I have just tried all 4 using Firefox. 2 downloaded fine but 2 failed, Charleston and Wright-Patterson.

If this is your experience it maybe that the links are not set properly.

I downloaded the survey results ok on my phone, but couldn't download it on my laptop. Also tried a couple of the scenery files on my laptop with the same result.

The captcha plugin problem should be fixed now. Are you still experiencing other issues?

I don't whether Greg is going to put those links on later or not but you can still access the MAIW packages through the Owl's Nest page.

Something I'm missing, that I found really useful before, are "view new messages" and "view recent messages". I think that's what the boxes were called. The "view recent" was particularly useful if I had read a message but wanted to come back to it a short while later. In the new version, I have to trawl through the topics to find the post I want.

Do we still have those two options please Greg?
