Post by asdro »

Hello MAIW team

do you have informations about new NAAI models, for example Awacs with CFM engines and tankers?

Probably going to be a while; the modeler is working on a degree.

I have no information on new projects by Juan.

I have been trying for a while to utilise his excellent E-3 models but I am hampered by a lack of painters. I really hope that the situation improves soon.

Recommend you reach out to Juan via the AIG site and ask how his degree is going...link is above.

Hello Ray,

I know it's an old topic but did you painted USAF E-3 with this NAAI model ? I only find NATO ones.

If you have USAF, Royal Saudi AF, French and RAF ones they will be welcom ;-)

Thanks.

I done all the USAF one's some time ago, they are in the MAIW's vault somewhere ?
if I remember correctly there was an issue with some serials and what tail band they had ?
so MAIW never put them in a package, but they were uploaded as a swap out from the original package.
no doubt Steve will remember more than me.

Ray is in fact correct, he did produce schemes from pics that he found online.
The issue was whether the aircraft had shifted around to different sqns or whether the sqns had changed their tail markings. I seem to remember at the time that no conclusive evidence was found so it was kept under wraps until we knew for sure.

It sounds like maybe if we got the answer now a replacement could be fairly easily put together.

Jason,
I can't quite rightly say for sure. I have searched my system and so far the only pack I have found for that model is called NAAI E3B-C-G 20march14.zip but I don't know which one of you guys did those.

If either one of you has the name of the pack sent then it would help me find them.
To help you guys that pack basically contains red or white fin flashes with the exception of the wing aircraft, 79-0003, which contains a five colour fin flash which was one of the reasons that doubts arose to the whether all fin flashes were accurate.

Now I am not saying that the USAF does not have a single colour band for a wind, but two colour different colour bands for a wing is really unusual if not unheard of.

So apart from the finding the two packs that were painted up if somebody was able to find out definitively what banding system the 552nd ACW uses it would be useful.
Especially as we now have another unit the 968th AACS based in the UAE not previously covered.

E3B-C-G 20march14.zip, that was me Steve and at the time 79-0003 did have multi coloured tail band.

OK thanks for confirming that, Ray.

So to my mind, the outstanding questions are:-
What was Jasons pack called?
What colours are the various unit bands?
Is it in essence worthy of a redo to take into consideration aircraft moves plus the new unit setups?

Steve,
My repaints were done in 2016, the file should be E-3 Sentry 552 ACW.zip
The tailband were Red and White for the Tinker birds, Green for the Alaska jets, and Red for the Kadena ones.
Mine were essentially a swap out for the old WOAI package. I want to say that I use Scramble to find most of the information, and
that was back when they had a lot more information.

Thanks for that Jason, I will have a search for those.

For anybody out there that knows about the units, do they still have individual unit colour bands or have they gone to either red or white bands across the wing.
Also what colour bands if any the 968th use?

My gut feeling here is that if we have two packs dated back for 2016 it would be unfair to publish one instead of the other.
My feeling here would be that if we could have an up to date force deployment, preferably with input from both gentlemen, then this would be the best solution.
Incidentally, the only info I obtained on the 968th was from the wikipedia page so I know their home base but that is about it.

The reason I keep asking about the colour bands is that Scramble still has them as having the individual colours.

well this is just one airframe highlighting the problems we were having, the first picture is 80-0139 in March supporting red tail flash
and picture 2 is 80-0139 in November now with a new tail flash, all within 6 months.(both pics were in 2020).

Totally,
I have no idea what is on the black stripe but the colour would indicate that it is assigned to the 963rd, unless that is the stripe for the 968th.
Either way this is different from the original packs.

We are definitely hampered by lack of intel here.
