Somehow it escaped my notice that the Mitsubishi X-2, formerly called the ATD-X, has started taxi trials in preparation for first flight:

The X-2 has completed ground testing and taken it's first flight, leaving Nagoya Komaki and transferring to Gifu.

It's almost like somebody put a Voodoos nose on a Raptor......I like the polite applause at the end. Very Japanese

Looks small to me. Good to see real world pics of click's Japanese Armed Forces work.

It's small because it's just a technology demonstrator not a prototype for a future aircraft. This is going to be used to test and develop 5th gen fighter features like stealth shaping, vectored thrust and other cool goodies. The F-3 fighter is going to be designed and built using lessons learned from this aircraft.

Thank heavens because that thing is FUGLY......
