AI Aircraft Editor for P3Dv3

Post by Holy Cheese »

Hi Martin,

Just wondering if you have any plans to update AI Aircraft Editor to work with P3Dv3? I have the current version running with P3Dv3 in the sense that I was able to select the AI aircraft folders from there, so can use it to view textures etc, but it cannot access the correct files to check on callsigns etc. I have been unable to find any .ini or .cfg file which will allow me to point the programme at the right folders.

Thanks
Jack

Martin is quite keen to keep up to date with the latest versions of FS and as the program detects P3D and P3Dv2 I would imagine that he will update it when he gets a chance.
There is no config file as Martin uses the registry entries to detect what versions you have on your system. So it would seem that with v3 Lockheed-Martin have changed the registry setup from v2.

Thanks Steve,

maybe I'll have a poke around in the registry. The programme does detect P3Dv2, even though I no longer have it installed on my system.

If anybody is still using the AI Aircraft Editor...

Could you please check if the update function finds, downloads and installs an update? Thanks.
Cheers,
Martin

Of course I still use it. I have checked it and it found an update, downloaded it and successfully installed it on Windows 10.

I used it yesterday without finding an update so I am guessing that your update system still works completely.

Great, thanks Steve. It was a bit adventurous because the clients in the wild are still pointing to the old domain.

This version incorporates most of your feedback from our last session plus P3Dv3 awareness.

The program looks ugly in Win10, right? I really need to give up on VB6 now and start using some more current language....
Cheers,
Martin

Martin, to be honest if you could fix W10 it would be a big help :)

I will do that, Steve, but I fear it is not a small thing to do.

I have become pretty good with VB6, but I am not a coder per se...
So I will have some rough seas ahead when rewriting the whole thing for VB .NET.

I probably start with the ADE Environment Checker because the scope is much smaller and it will get my fingers warm.
Cheers,
Martin

Update works, thank you.

I mainly use the model viewer for repainting AI aircraft but it also works with most flyable aircraft.

Hi Martin,

been away on a business trip and was delighted when I fired up AI Aircraft Editor last night to find that you have updated it for P3Dv3 - it downloaded and installed with no problems.

However, I'm still facing greyed out boxes when it comes to the airlines.cfg for reporting missing callsigns - many things moved around in P3Dv3 so I assume that something is not pointing to the right location for the airlines.cfg.

Thanks again for the update, and yes - I use AI Aircraft Editor every day :) - couldn't be without it!

Hi Jack,

funny that you mention it - before releasing that update I noticed the same behavior. I was in fact not able to locate any airlines.cfg on my brand new P3D 3.4 installation.

Some help here would be appreciated.

Stay tuned for the VBNet version - it is coming along extremely well and you can expect a beta very soon.
Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin,

I'm using P3D v3.4.18.19475, and my airlines.cfg is located in c:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3

I haven't moved that file at all, this is where it installed by default for me.

Would be really grateful if you can fix this.

New version is looking very good!

Many thanks

What is done & working:

Interface
ModelViewer in second form
Folder TreeView (pita!!!) which remembers last path
Check on load for duplicate sections
Check for duplicate [fltsim.x] sections plus renumbering
Check for un-numbered [fltsim.x] sections plus renumbering
Auto-Backup of aircraft.cfg
Visible Log of all AIAE operations in interface
Complete Log of operations written to file
Read & display relevant data from aircraft.cfg
Edit data with visible representation of every changed value
Apply one value to all sections (where it makes sense)
Configurable datagrid view
AIAE update check
Read binary model version
Read and write model size for models < FSX
Read and change aircraft type (Flyable, Heli, AI)
Deal with comments
Save operations normal data changes with format comments

What needs to be done or is not yet completed:

Sort [fltsim.x] keys -> medium
Change parking spot size for >= FSX aircraft -> easy
Analyze all aircraft below -> complicated
airlines.cfg analysis -> complicated
reading of simobjects folder for quick access to these folders -> medium

I have a question. I often wondered about sections like force-feedback etc in AI aircraft configuration files. Do we have the knowledge to say which sections might be deleted from an AI aircraft file in order to make the config smaller, better readable etc?
And if so - would that be a useful functionality?
Cheers,
Martin
