animation position after merging projects very weird

Post by jyarddog »

Been with FSDS for years. Always noticed this odd behavior...

example....

I made a nice atc tower with stairs, antennae, trans glass, etc. I then thought I would merge this with another object I made a few months ago....... a little animated anemometer (little wind thingy that spins around in the wind like mad;)) haha

Merge worked fine. compiled... no errors. Placed it with IS3.

Holy cow, Batman! The anemometer is spinning just fine, but it is way off in the air 20 or 30 feet higher and Way off center!

Back to FSDS ............... click ani and sure enough the anemometer is way off. repositioned it while in ani and saved.

result........... nothing changed.

I then made a parent part - no change.

Finally I removed all key animations and redid the animation. This time everything worked great.

Why could I not readjust it without having to redo the animation completely. Is this happens when merging projects?

and BTW- how is John Stinstrom? Spoken with him through e-mail many times. Bob

Bob, not sure how John is doing, we haven't heard from him in some time.

As to your problem, I have seen this several times and it is maddening. I don' t know if it's a problem with how MakeMdl compiles the model with the animation or what.

I usually just find a workaround using various techniques.

Sorry I can't help more.

Mike- Thank you for the response. Hope John is doing well.

I was working in xtomdl so I guess this occurs with both compilers. Anyway- as I stated I just redid the animation and it worked out fine. Maybe when one does 'merge' it screws up FSDS's mind. ;)

I wonder if anyone can get Sinclaire to do an update for FSDS. We all have a wish list to present... I am sure. ;) Bob

bingo!!!Maybe someone can contact him and ask permission to do it. I heard he was more into doing music these days. Scott Hendricks (a fine designer) was trying to nudge him to do it.
