Reinstall FS9 and FSX

I recently had a hard drive problem that now requires a complete re-install of FS9 and FSX. There were a lot of MAIW projects installed along with a lot of custom add-on scenery. FS9 had Just Flight installed for commercial aviation, although I am considering switching to World of AI to keep things more current. I had Ultimate Traffic II installed in FSX but am also considering World of AI here as well. Any suggestion, words of wisdom from the community before I begin this project?

One quick question. What OS does your PC have?

World of AI won't be current...Not many packages released.
Recommend you go to AIG for more up to date commercial aviation

OK in which case I believe that you can still install both but you may need to switch on a service to get it to install.

Basically all MS software, plus others, for a number of years used the SafeDisc security system to ensure that no pirated software could be run. There was problems with it though and so MS got rid of it.

Trouble was with Win 10 they removed it. To make 7/Vista/8 compatible they pushed out an update that disabled the system.

The good news is that with 7/V/8 you can restart the service, then install the FS and then disable it again. However, you have to then either start it every time you run the game, or once installed you have to install the NoCD patch which ironically MS suggest you do now.

So you may have some trouble but at least it will work. On Win 10 however there is every possibility that it may not install, although I have not heard first hand whether it will or won't.

WIth Windows 10 I had no problem at all. Whole my FS9 system works perfectly, even re-installing it gave no problems.

FSX can be installed direct into WIN10 but its a bit of a pain. I did it a couple of months ago but only after several failures. I seem to recall that I did a google search and found a page that explained the procedure. Sorry can't remember exactly how it was done but it was something like opening the installation disc in explorer and double clicking on one of the *.exe files instead of following autostart.

I can also confirm that FS9 plus NoCD works perfect.

Martin, did you have install problems from the CDs, or just trying to run the game?

Nope, installed it just for the AIAE tests and version information. Installation went smoothly, I then replaced the executable with the NoCD version and started the sim. But I guess when it breaks it do so already at this stage.

Thanks for all the information. So far have installed the "core" of both FS9 and FSX and installed the NoCD executable for FS9. The core of both programs are working properly, slowly adding aircraft back and again, so far so good.
