Offutt RC-135 Visible until takeoff in P3D

Hello,

I am finding most MAIW AI show up ok in P3D v3 except the OFFUTT RC-135 packages.
Statically they look great until they taxi to the airport threshold, then disappear into lights only.
Any ideas on conversion? The E4-B's in the package work perfectly.

thanks,

David

Hi I have a similar issue it seems to happen only with Nick Black models (sorry Nick) i.e C135 and derivatives, F15 and A400M .

The aircraft taxy up to threshold ok and then when take off clearance is given they disappear leaving only the nav running lights showing.....shortly before or just after takeoff the model will re-appear in the distance I would appreciate any help with this one !

Hmmm..... that's the weird one. Can't speak for Nick's models but the C-135 derivatives I did don't have anything special as far as XML coding once the strobe lights come on (triggered once clear for takeoff).

Have you guys tried altering the .cfg file to remove the effects one by one to see if any of them are the issue??

I have tried removing the actual Effects from the folder but not from the config. I will give that a try. Thx

I removed the effect/lights entries from the config, and also tried removing the actual effects from the Effects folder. But the aircraft still dissappear right before they are to enter runway. They reappear above 10,000 feet.

Upon return do the aircraft disappear below 10,000 and reappear on the taxiway ?

(Obviously a cloaking device intended to foil the photographers just beyond the airfield perimeter fence.
Nick is probably right now negotiating a deal with defense contractors.)

That sounds spookily like a logo light effect, from take off to 10,000 ft.

Logo and landing lights are active from the takeoff clearance up to 10,000 ft and then the same in reverse.

I wonder if it could be the actual part name 'light_land' that is hard coded into the models that is causing the problem? That is a hard coded effect that is native to FS9 and the MakeMdl compiler.

Sounds plausible.

Can you guys confirm which models this happens to?

For me it happens with the RC/OC/TC/WC-135's in the Offutt AFB package, but not the E-4B in the same package.
The aircraft do disappear again once they get close to base.

It was happening to me in FSX with DX-10 fixer until I changed the Fixer's slider towards "Aircraft" in the Legacy options and it went away. But obviously in P3D we dont have that option. I did try the p3D migration tool settings for "Start in Legacy Mode", but that didn't work.

Hmmm, I am not keen on kinda forcing our modellers to make FS9, FSX and P3D versions of models as they have a hard enough time as it is. The other thing here is that what we don't know is whether a P3D model would be compatible with every version of P3D.

This may need some thought. However we would need to test to see if what Mike and I surmise is correct.

Not looking for a recode. Just simple tweaks or config changes to make a few of the older packages work. If issue is hard-coded and not tweakable, then I have my answer to not waste anymore time with that particular AI.

If I recompiled one of the C-135 variants without the part 'light_land' in it, would one of you test it for us to see if this is the issue??

Thanks Mike I would be happy to. Is that a recompile using ModelConverterX or do you go back to the source files?

Would be with MakeMdl for FS9.

Might try it with ModelConverterX as well.

Give me a day or two to get that done and I will post it here.

If this helps Mike out you can try this.

I tried a re-compile using the latest version of MCX, from the mdl, of the WC-135W to a P3Dv2 mdl. It did compile with errors.

Firstly, this is my first time trying this so I could be doing something amazingly wrong, like not having some package installed. Firstly MCX says that it has some errors but I will send the file to Mike in case it helps him.

Secondly, the process produced two fx files which may or may not be required. I would try w/o first and then with to see if there is a difference.

I have pm'd you the output for you to test. I would first rename the FS9 mdl before replacing it as this may be a complete dud.

If you could post your test results here for Mike to see that would be helpful.

I think I just about understand what you guys are trying - just downloaded the latest A400M (RAF) file and this has the same problem in P3D.. has anyone looked at that to see if there is a common thread? ....If I understood model files more i would try to help, but I they are a bit of a dark art to me... anyway thank you for your efforts and interest.
