Davis Monthan AFB & Tucson ANGB spotting

We got to Davis Monthan pretty early in the morning & we were rewarded by a P-3C going to the Boneyard & an Arizona ANG F-16. It then went very quiet for a while & then we worked out why. The A-10's all took off away from us & then the wind changed direction & they also landed away from us, problem was we couldn't feel the wind where we were so we didn't know until we got bored & walked to the top of a crest & saw all the A-10 lights on approach. However we did get an A-10C launch & a U-28 as well which was nice.

It was much more active here but unfortunately the Iraqi F-16's didn't come out to play so a shot through the substantial haze in the sun sheds will have to do. The Dutch F-16's were out & about & there was a couple of visitors in the form of a US Army UH-72A Lakota & a Singaporean AH-64D Apache.

Wow Dan, you must be having a whale of a time photographing in the USA and doing it with such brilliant results.

Dan, do you have a radio scanner? I can suggest a few freeware apps that will show airport weather info to get winds.

Thanks John, it was brilliant. Hope to do something similar next year but in Japan.

We did have one but it was pretty inaudible there for whatever reason. Besides we had some approaches so we assumed we were in the right place & had no reason to change

Dan, you somehow got more action on your visit. Flew out to TUS today and nothing! On departure, picked up a "LIGHTNING" callsign on ATC radio freq going into Jackal MOA, so exciting!

We got lucky then, they were pretty active in the afternoon. They weren't flying in the morining when we were there so that that may have been a factor

I used to work on A-10's for over 10 years at DM. I wish I could get the Air base scenery to work in P3d V4. Just can't seem to do it. I miss Tucson. . .
