Greetings,
Thanks for another great conversion package. In the instructions, we are advised to put the folder "To main P3D v4 Folder" in the P3D folder. However, I do not see the "To main P3D v4 Folder" folder in the package.

Please advise, I'm a little confused about this new Lua thing.

Thank you,
Reggie

Don't follow the instructions in the docu folder. That folder contains the original readmes that came with the model and paints.

Follow the instructions in the PDF.

Scripts simply go into "Prepar3D v4\Scripts". That's all there is to it.

The title says RWAI. Is that the same thing as PAI? Because I remember it being the PAI C-17. Or was there another C-17 made by RWAI that I didn't know about.

It is the same thing.
Rysiek created the model and made it available through PAI but it is the RWAI C-17.

Much in the same way that Nick Black (amongst a lot of others) made his models and made them available through MAIW. They are still NBAI models.

Will they be made available for FSX too?

These conversion packages contain AI models converted to FSX native format for use in FSX/P3D. :smt023

I honestly can't recall ever seeing anything about "scripts" -- can someone explain what they are and if they are important to add to P3Dv4?

The lua scripts are what we use in P3D to control the cabin lighting (also the position lights aka green slime lights on aircraft that use them). On commercial airliners we can use lua scripts to do things like dim the cabin lights for take off, provide mood lighting at altitude etc. Military aircraft tend to be much simpler.
If you don't place the script into the "Scripts" folder you won't get night lighting in the model.

Thanks Mike, that is good news. I got confused because some packages have seperated installers for FSX and P3D. So i can use all P3D packages with no problems in FSX? :D

No you can’t. If the package is marked as compatible with P3Dv4 only in the hangar, then it can’t be used in FSX.

But the FS9 model works perfectly fine in FSX, as do most if not all models. Just keep using that one.

So folks understand why some packages will have both FSX and P3D versions (at least the packages that I did the conversion work for).

If the model has props (for example the A-400) then I will try to create an FSX and a P3Dv4 native version of the model. This is to get rid of the prop behind clouds issue in FSX. If it is a jet model (for example the C-17) then I usually will just do a P3D model as the FS9 jets work well in FSX.

Understand that it is more complicated than just re-compiling for the different flightsim versions. The way the lighting is dealt with is totally different and requires considerable rework to get the lights working in FSX as well as in P3D.

FYI -
FS9 models work in FSX and P3D (up to P3Dv3)
FSX models work in P3D (all versions)
P3Dv4 models don't work in earlier versions of the sim

Thank you for this further great conversation pack!
Looking very forward to let some visit Ramstein...
I have just one question: According to the model=brit, do I get it right there will follow some models/repaints for the RAF heavies? Would be great to reanimate Brize Norton for example...

The RAF paints were done by Mike Pearson some time ago. Filename "pai_c17a_raf.zip" on avsim

Does anyone know if there are any repaints of the C-17 for the 164th Airlift Wing, Tennessee ANG out of Memphis?

Thanks,
Reggie

2 small things I have noticed with the P3Dv4 C-17:

1. The nosewheel well covers that remain open when parked/taxiing appear to be slightly detatched from the main fuselage.

2. The parking spot size (as shown in AIAE) is only 15 which seems far too small for an A/C of this size. The C130 is 20.

Am slowly going through all the C-17 bases and airports frequently visited checking for available parking and installing air bases where required. Its gonna take some time. The Aircraft looks great with the P3D lighting & shadow effects, well worth the change from FS2004.

Thank you for all of the updated models 😀

Pete, I just checked out the C-17 in FS9 and the nosewheel doors are detached there as well, so this is not a conversion issue. Apparently nobody including myself did notice this till now. BTW, in real life those doors are in the same position, they are connected to the fuselage with a couple of extended hinges or whatever they are called, those details are not implemented in the AI model.
