AI F-18s flying with canopy open

Hi, I noticed AI RAAF F-18s and maybe other AI aircraft flying around with their canopies open. This was near RAAF Williamtown YWLM.
Is there a fix for this behaviour?
Does this happen elsewhere?

Can you confirm which models from which downloaded archive you are using please?

OK thanks for that. The relevant people will now investigate.

Can you just confirm which version of P3D you are using please?

I never witnessed such behaviour, but it's been a while since I visited Australia so I'll have another look when I can.

Are they flying around with the canopy open all the time or do you see the canopy open and close?

From memory the canopy opens and stays open. I am not able to check but will do in a couple of days when I get home

Here are three screenshots along with the date and time at YWLM

The canopy is initially closed, then it opens and stays open.

I did not convert the Australian Hornets but after opening one in MCX I think I know what the problem is. The animation tag which controls the canopy has the unwanted side effect that the canopy opens in full flight when the aircraft flies above 10,000 feet:

(A:LIGHT NAV,bool) if{ (A:LIGHT LANDING, bool) ! if{ 50 } els{ 0 } }

I guess someone missed the fact that AI traffic landing lights are off above 10,000 feet.

I mostly use the following tag which ensures the canopy is only open if engines are not running and during the pre/post flight stage:

(A:LIGHT RECOGNITION,bool) if{ 0 } els{ (A:LIGHT NAV,bool) if{ 50 } els{ 0 } }

If you want the model to taxi with canopy open you caould use something like this but Hornets almost always taxi with closed canopies:

(A:LIGHT STROBE,bool) if{ 0 } els{ (A:LIGHT NAV,bool) if{ (A:VELOCITY BODY Z, knots) 25 < if{ 50 } } els{ 0 } }

Henk.

Graham did this conversion, let me chat with him about fixing the issue.

The Australian F18, were modified from Nick blacks originals for Australia FS9 packages to taxi with open canopy, as this is a regular thing down under.

Graham was aware of the issue, had fixed it and uploaded the updates last summer. Unfortunately they got missed when the package was released (stuff happens).

He has a family thing that requires his attention but has sent me the updates. I will co-ordinate with Greg/Martin to get them released.

These models will taxi with the canopy open. As Mark noted this is SOP for the Australian Hornets.

thanks
Gavin

I should also point out the the _CC models that are part of the package have "normal" canopy behaviour, ie they open the canopy several minutes before push back and close the canopy before taxi.

Just FYI

An update is available for Matrix Oceania.

The standalone conversion package will be updated as soon as I can.
