Brize & Mildenhall spotting (pic heavy)

Earlier this week myself & a good mate of mine (MSoden1991, Matt) decided to take a trip down to the above bases. The weather in England is, well English I suppose. Heavy showers & some thunderstorms knocking about the whole 3 days we were there, as you can see though it really does make for some interesting backgrounds, blue sky is great & all but sometimes you just can't beat a big stormy background with a fully lit up aircraft in front of it. We got to Brize literally 10/15 minutes before an Egyptian Air Force C-130 landed, completely unintentionally I might add. That departed a few hours later, no idea what it was there for but who cares. We did Mildenhall the day after & were treated to a KC-46 departure just as we arrived, again by sheer coincidence. Anyway enough talking & on with the pictures.......

Such great variety in those shots Dan, always appreciate your work! We need to get you to Nellis one of these days!

Found this shots accidentally - and it was worth it! What a variety of aircraft and spotting positions! Will come back to your shots regularly from now on!

Thanks chaps, much appreciated.

Nellis is definitely on my radar, especially for a red flag exercise. That along with Oshkosh as well at some point.

Great shots and noticed some of the C.4s are carrying drop tanks and some not. All the US slick J's have them removed given the efficiency of the new motors/props combo.

The 'drop' tanks (it takes several hours' work to 'drop' them!) are fitted to most RAF C130Js because the range/efficiency benefits of the RR2100s turned out to be much less than promised. Their stock-in-trade is fairly heavily-loaded sectors to Cyprus and beyond, and the clean wing isn't up to the job - in old money the tanks carry 9000lb of fuel each, or around 30% of the overall capacity between them.
