Re: First RNoAF P-8A Poseidon
All RNoAF P-8 are now delivered (2 will stay in US till 2023)
Source : Scramble.nlDelivery of final RNoAF Poseidon
On 27 May 2022, the fifth and final Boeing P-8A Poseidon was delivered to the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA). The aircraft, serial 9586 and named "Munin", is the third that arrived in Norway. The other two Poseidons currently reside at NAS Jacksonville (FL) and will be delivered to Norway at a later stage, with the final aircraft expected in 2023. All Poseidons will be operated by 333 skvadron at Evenes.
All Poseidons have been named with long historical roots. The name "Munin" comes from Norse mythology and will continue the legacy of the Luftforsvaret (RNoAF, Royal Norwegian Air Force) Falcon 20ECM "Hugin" and "Munin" which are still in operational service today with FEKS/717 skvadron. FEKS is the Forsvarets elektroniske krigføringssenter (Armed Forces Center for Electronic Warfare).
In March 2017, Norway ordered five P-8A Maritime Multimission Aircraft (MMA) in a USD 1,2 billion Foreign Military Sale (FMS) contract. The Poseidons are purchased as a replacement for the RNoAF veteran fleet of P-3C/N Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) as well as the two Dassault Falcon 20ECM surveillance aircraft.
According to the Scramble Magazine database Norway has the following Poseidons:
9582 (c/n 66110/8796), named "Vingtor", delivered in December 2021 to NAS Jacksonville
9583 (c/n 66111/8911), named "Viking", delivered in February 2022 to Evenes
9584 (c/n 66112/8949), named "Ulabrand", delivered in March 2022 to Evenes
9585 (c/n 66113/8988), named "Hugin", delivered 4 April 2022 to NAS Jacksonville
9586 (c/n 66114/9026), named "Munin", delivered 27 May 2022 to Evenes
