Aircraft storage during the Covid Pandemic

Just a little something I found interesting that I thought others might like to see.

I’ve just been checking through the Omega tanker flight plan airports for the new KC-10 packages and all is OK except for Victorville (KVCV) where the default parking spot is too small. No problem in correcting that and providing a custom file. What was interesting though was reading the write-up in Wikki and looking at the airfield in Google Earth. It was previously known as George AFB. It is now a facility for large numbers of laid-up commercial airliners put into storage because of the Covid pandemic. The whole Quantas A380 fleet is there apparently. Search Google Earth with "George AFB California".

Even before the Pandemic and to this day, Victorville has been one of the US' major aircraft Boneyards. A variety of different aircraft have flown into VCV to be put into storage or scrapped. Back in the George AFB era, it was a major fighter base back in the Cold War and hosted many different Cold War era jets like the F-86, 102, 104, 105, 106, and F-4. George was one of the bases that closed down in the early 90s.

JY,
I'm over VCV weekly on my trips and love looking down trying to count the amount aircraft, especially during the beginning of the pandemic. Also you could have a look at Roswell, NM.

Aha, Roswell looks to be storing American Airlines jets.

Is that behind the flying saucers?

Oh come on, you must have been expecting some idiot to say it.

I find this file "Predator AF2_KVCV.bgl" in a March AFC directory in my FS9... but is an ugly AFCAD.

If someone have got a good KVCV Afcad/Ade file (for FS9 or FSX) I'm interested.

Thanks a lot.

Ouch, that is a bit mean.
It looks like a nice afcad but if you mean that there is an afcad and there is nothing else then I can go with you on that.

If that is the case you can always use the FRF scenery for Victorville and mod the afcad for the Predator parking area.
