What Global Scenery Do You Use?

Not long ago I stumbled on converted Orbx scenery for FS9, was a bit tricky to install as I had to do each section separately, it did improve the look but for some reason lately it seems to have distorted if that is the right word.
I know FS9 is old now but I like it and it is easy to work on etc. So I was wondering if there is a decent global scenery that is worth looking at.
I did at one time purchase VFR scenery for the whole of the UK and also one for Holland, but as you know it looks not too bad from a certain height but as you get nearer the ground it flattens out and doesn't look so good.
What bothers me most is the repeated tiles effect you see from a certain height, it looks like you are flying over a giant carpet, so any recommendations please guys?

In my above post I mentioned from certain heights it just looks like a giant carpet with repeated tiles, on the attachment this is what I mean, I am looking to see if there is an alternative? Col.

There were alternatives but whether they are still available or not is the question.
They were all payware. Whether or not any of them were ever made freeware is doubtful. The only obvious all-in-one package that I can remember was FS Global. There were a few systems that allowed you to update regions at a time.

I guess the question is do you really want to go and spend a lot of money to upgrade a program released nearly 20 years ago.

You can upgrade the textures with freeware packs but the fact will remain that unless you get a system that upgrades the terrain map and the land map then you are just going to see a different kind of same.

Thanks Steve, Yes I kind of figured that might be the case, I have FSX with Orbx in certain regions but being on a pension it proves a bit expensive, you can get a discount by the way with being a senior on Orbx which isn't widely known.

Reason I asked about FS2004 is I like working with it, I do lots of tweaking, only real thing that bothers me is the scenery, I've read where ppl say they fly low and slow to admire the scenery, but it is the same all over, it just repeats, I've done that and seen the same buildings and fields I have just passed.

I was looking in my old disks and low and behold I have FSGlobal, I totally forgot I had that, anyway I installed it and it has made a difference, not got the carpet tile effect now.

That's handy. Glad it has improved for you.

Initally, I thought FSGlobal would make a major improvement. But I was very disappointed to realize that this addon mainly causes steep slopes and sharp cliffs. So I went back to Rhumbafloppy's LOD8 world mesh.

Well after loading FSGlobal I notice now the scenery only opens as I fly over it, I've had this before and forgot the what settings I need to change to rectify, I did a quick search but gave up.
I have a feeling it is in the main cfg I need to change something, any ideas please?

Bernard I will look for Rhumba as you mentioned.

OK I found one of my old threads on Flightsim where I first asked the same question and got the answer, it was changing some things in the fs9.cfg, so far it seems a bit better.
