Is it one where you build it online and they ship it to you or is it sort of all in one package kind of thing? I ask because the graphics card seems a bit old and you could probably do a lot better in that area.

BTW, I'm far from an expert.........

Mike is right it is an old card.

I'd get rid of the Norton and Vista though....LOL.

Only joking it does look like a good rig.

Hey thanks guys, yeah its a computer that i want to buy on line. I was thinking to change the graphic card, which one would be good to even handle fsx.

Looks like a fair system although I would prefer an Intel quad core processor if thats within your price range and of course as previously mentioned a more recent graphics card.
Am currently running the GeForce 8800GTX and that gives some very good FPS numbers.
If you are going to use this box just for FS9 then if possible stick with Windows XP(SP3), but if you are thinking of playing with FSX then go for the Vista option.
As far as the Anti-virus options go I have never liked Nortons offerings as they seem to gobble up far too much memory and clock cycles. I use AVG & so far (Touch wood) have never had a problem and its free.

yeah i will see how much the quad is going for, thanks for the info. I really love fs9 and fsx but im tired of my old computer making me frustrated with the stuttering and pauses with the game. I cant wait to upgrade and really enjoy flying. I was so frustrated that i have deleted fs9 so many times and reinstalled when i missed playing it.

Hi Pete,
Just a quick question for you...you say XP SP3. Have you got SP3 and have you had any probs with it ? I only ask as I'm still running with SP2, with no issues so far. I have read a few people have had issues with SP3....
Just wondering whats your perspective please ?

Many thanks,
Regards

Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6100 graphics
Integrated graphics aren't worth the silicon they are made of IMHO as far as FSn goes.

One man's opinion.

OTOH you indicate it has a PCI-Express slot, so you will be able to upgrade to a much better graphic card. The HD is a bit small for my taste. You may also have to replace the power supply. Integrated sound card will be no more than barely acceptable, but an upgrade for that can wait!

You will need an OS that is made for 64bit if you expect to have any benefit for that. In fact 32bit OS may not work, so stick with the OS that comes with it. (64bit is great if you do any work with video)

Replace this part. Sorry, could not resist. Had bad experiences with US made hardware.

SP3 is just a collation of all the minor bugfixes and security updates since SP2 was released. There no major changes to Windows or any of its components. I have not had any problems since I installed it and on the whole my XP box is as solid as you could wish for.

[quote="Garysb"]Hi all

Intel every time at the Mo

They new AMD Shanghai quad is out and may be slightly cheaper than a comparable Intel offering. The problem is it still does not quite have the pure grunt of the intel chip.

If money is tight then go for the AMD, but this may be a false economy as it will show its age quicker. I have always tried to get the absolute best/newest kit that I can afford when I put together a new box as this will mean it will last much longer.

If money is no problem then I would go for the Intel Nehalem i7 965 S1366 3.2GHz this will run FS9/FS10/FS11 (Possibly at the same time) :!: , and be about as future proof as you can get but it aint cheap :D

I had to chuckle at the last line; I think they mean assembled in the USA :)

Most, if not all, will have been made in China.
