SimHQ recently had one of their frequent posters post his top 10 Aviation themed movies, which sparked alot of conversation about his personal choices. Since all of us here are aviation enthusiasts and a fair share of us are also real world pilots, I thought it'd be fun to see what your top 10 favorite aviation movies were. Post up, lets discuss em. I find it really hard to make a list since most of the aviation films I have watched a really good, but I have to say that the Dambusters and the Battle of Britain are about as high in my view as it is possible to forget!

Looks like I'm gonna have to check out this "Dambusters" movie, seems to be on alot of lists

What they have named the dog something other than what it should be? Its a actual name not a racial slur.

Some good films listed above. My ones would be:

1. Dambusters (I'm biased having served over 3 years on 617 and been immersed in the squadron history on a daily basis)
2. Battle of Britain
3. Memphis Belle
4. Top Gun
5. Flight of the Intruder (although I preferred the book - Coonts is a genius)
6. Con Air (maybe not strictly an aviation movie but a great story)
7. Tora Tora Tora (puts Pearl Harbor to shame as a historical film)
8. Black Hawk Down
9. The Aviator
10. Angels One Five

Also look out for 'Get Some In' (I know, it's not a movie but great comedy series about life in the RAF)

They haven't yet but I wouldn't get your hopes up-it'll probably end up changed if the PC people get their way, though I really hope in this case they don't.

The first one I thought about was "The Blue Max".

But I love "The Battle of Britain", "The Dam Busters", "Flyboys", "Flight of the Intruder", "Air America", and "Top Gun". And I had forgotten about "The Great Waldo Pepper"

Actually, come to think about it, I like most every movie with an airplane in it!

How about "reach for the sky" old tin legs!

Dambusters has got to be the one for me as Scampton is only down the road
The dogs grave is still there at the side of the taxiway and is just visible in GE

Brings me back to a funny story in Vulcan days when 27 sqn roped off a big area in front of the hanger saying it was where they had burried the elephant (dumbo being their mascot)

And Kirton In Linsey (where most of the flying shots where taken) is even closer and old DB above landed on the farmhouse!

Nothing to do with films but Hibaldstow is even closer with its famous flight.
