The Owl's Nest has seen a major update. The site design has changed to a much lighter shade.

Image

Other changes are:
  • New and more robust Download Center
  • Live Air Traffic Viewer
  • redesign and update of several pages
  • no fixed page header any longer
  • all tables shown with full length immediately
  • as per request works with mobile phone browsers Safari and Opera now (I never thought of testing that to be honest :o)
You are welcome to check out the new design whenever you like :)

I checked the site with Firefox 4 and found no issues. I checked it with the 3 browsers I have on my Android phone.

The built in Internet browser and Firefox 4 mobile both show the site as the main browsers do, small but identical. Opera mini though alters the format. Its larger and therefore more readable but the formatting does leave some weird anomalies.

For example, on the MAIW page the three downloads at the top you get the list of three followed by the 3 icons. It also mashes the table somewhat for the downloads. It shows each row in one box. For the table header row it shows a place marker for an image, I am assuming the single transparent gif thing here. You would really need to see it for your self to understand what i mean.

To summarize, it looks great for PC's however it can look a bit weird for mobiles.

I run the tests on an iPhone 4. Safari is working fine as far as I can see and provides the far better optical & reading experience, compared to Opera.

With Opera I see that on the MAIW page the three download icons make the page extraordinary wide (so that everything is extremely small and you need to zoom in to read it). Aside from that the package table looks like it is supposed to look.

--> Ah, now I found an Opera setting 'mobile view' that indeed completely screws up the page. Have you enabled that by any chance, Steve?

Anyway, I guess that with all browsers for Androids, iPhones and Windows mobiles the battle is already lost. Opposite than before the new design is at least kind of usable on mobiles. :smt001

Hi Martin,
Can't be too sure, as I am not an opera fan. However, the app is called Opera Mini and is designed for mobiles so I guess that it's built with that option on. It does sound like it, the way you describe it.

Best we use your site from our main PC's. :D

Neither am I, Steve, and right you are. A phone is a phone is a ... :smt002

By the way - I could not resist.... the MAIW section and the Military aircraft list have just seen another update. Hopefully this change makes both a class better in terms of usability. The link desert is gone and the Package preview - well you have to see for yourself :smt003

I have enhanced the Military Aircraft Reference.

New is the aircraft type. You can filter for one or for combinations of types (btw: you can combine filters. e.g. year "<1970" and type="attack"). The "x" shows the type as a tooltip, so that you still know what it stands for when you scroll down and can't t see the headers. 'Other' combines (and shows via tooltip) categories like Tanker, Flying Boat, AWS etc.

The FSX parking spot type is included as a tooltip of the parking spot size.

Hope you like it. Your feedback is appreciated. The German Seakings will be added this evening.

You're clearly putting a lot of time in your site, Martin.

I'm going to have a detailed look later.

Just a window of opportunity after one year without any real changes except the MAIW list updates, Greg

For several days, I can no longer go to the owlsnest site.

Finally, yes, but the site no longer opens correctly.
I have all the menus appearing as a list. And the AI Arcraft Reference board no longer opens. So I don't know how to do any more research.

Anyone else having this problem?

Same issue here.

!!!! But if you click on the owls icon, you will get back your usual startup menue (all pull down menues as normal). !!!!!!

Once done, I create a bookmark in Firefox to get back the former site.

Hope this helps

I am sorry, but I can't replicate this with neither Chrome, Firefox or Edge on Windows-11@home and Windows-10@work. Working fine for me.
