Kawasaki C-1s and EC-1
If you've seen the teaser in Brent's (clickclickdoh) post in his Japanese Bases topic last week, you may have wondered about the Kawasaki C-1s in his screen shot. They are actually brand new AI aircraft.
I've produced 3 models (in both FS9 and FSX native code): the Air Development and Test Command C1 finished in natural metal and the standard camouflaged C-1s of the JASDF and ADTC. For completeness, I’ve also made the single EC-1 used by Denshisen Shientai at Iruma for Electronic Warfare training:
The models have animated crew and cargo doors as well as flaps, slats, spoilers and thrust reversers. The FS9 aircraft also have steering nose wheels:
This is the EC-1 and must surely rate as the ugliest nose-job ever:
The AI package contains the 13 C-1 aircraft operated by 402 Hikotai at Iruma and the 7 aircraft of 403 Hikotai at Miho. The two C-1 test bed aircraft of the Air Development and Test Command at Gifu and the EC-1 at Iruma, as already mentioned, are also included.
The 3 bases produced by Brent are available in the MAIW Download Hangar. These sceneries are on the list for conversion to FSX code, but I have confirmed that the FS9 versions work well in FSX apart from some small window flickering and tree transparency issues. My C-1 packages include replacement AFCAD files to park the aircraft, a traffic file and call signs, all produced by Brent.
Iruma:
Miho:
Gifu (Air Development and Test Command):
The AI packages have been sent to the MAIW Download Hangar this morning for processing. The file names are:
FS9: JYAI_Kawasaki_C-1_FS9_1.zip
FSX: JYAI_Kawasaki_C-1_FSX_1.zip
Have fun and enjoy.

Awesome stuff, John.
One of those nice little models that you hoped to see but never thought that anybody would do it.

As Steve said, one of the models I wasn't interested to make but I wanted to see them in sim.

Thank you John for the C-1s.
They look like baby C-141s - just cute...

Fantastic job John. Brings back memories of my time stationed at Yokota (76-78). Actually did 2 loads on one. But I was wondering if the all silver versions of both 402 Hikotai and 403 Hikotai could be done. As I do mid 1960-1970 version, the camo was not yet done. But, again many thanks for this aircraft...

Re: Kawasaki C-1s and EC-1
Thanks everyone for your kind comments. It was a really nice aircraft to make with no real difficulties. There's a great deal of animation in the models which was fine, but it's such a tedious task to incorporate into the FSX version because each moving part in each LOD needs an animation tag and some need a visibility tag also. Both entail searching and scrolling from drop down menus for a good few hours. You really have to concentrate to get the right tag and key frame values and they all have to be checked in flight. That's thankfully not needed in FS9.
Yes, if people are interested in the retro silver aircraft schemes, I can do that. I'll need a complete list of serial numbers though and any changing to the badging. There were I think a couple of colourful anniversary schemes that I came across in my preliminary research. I don't know if Brent fancies having a go at those.

Re: Kawasaki C-1s and EC-1
First thank you for the new AI plane, it is real nice!
Now I have a question about Gifu. How many of these planes are based at Gifu? I have scenery for Gifu (a different scenery than the one from MAIW) and I only see 2 of these planes at the base. Do I need to fix my AFCAD to add more parking for these planes? Or is there just 2 planes based at Gifu?

Re: Kawasaki C-1s and EC-1
Joseph29, there are only 2 currently based at Gifu, the silver Flying Testbed and the 60th Anniversary tail. But!!! You may see more on the ground there since Gifu is also the home of the Kawasaki plant and C-1s go there for heavy maintenance and overhaul.
And I don't know why John would think that I might be working one some retro..
...Oh damn, never mind. I guess he knows me too well. So yeah, there's some colorful retro jets coming soon.
John as for the silver retro jets, here's what I can confirm for squadron assignments in the 1977-1981 period:
401st Squadron
38-1003
58-1007
68-1016
78-1022
88-1027
402nd Squadron
48-1004
48-1005
68-1018
68-1050
78-1022
403rd Squadron
68-1019
Air Proving Wing
28-1001
So... I don't have many of the serials confirmed for that time period. Part of the problem, and maybe actually a solution, is that the C-1s didn't wear tail flashes until 1977ish so it's almost impossible to tell who they were assigned to before that. Once tail flashes were added, 401, 402 and 403 did wear different tail flashes than they do today and I can provide those for you if you want to do them with the tail flashes on instead of straight silver.

Re: Kawasaki C-1s and EC-1
Ok thanks. I will add a few more parking spots for visiting C-1's.
PS: I was going to add a link or something for the Gifu scenery I am using in case anyone is interested, but I have no idea where I got it from. It's pretty nice, it has photo ground textures of the surrounding area.

Re: Kawasaki C-1s and EC-1
I absolutely love the blue paint job Brent.
In your list of serials in the 1977-1981 period, 88-1027 and 68-1050 are not in the complete list of 31 aircraft, so I’m not sure what’s right and what’s not. Ignoring the ones that have been written off, do I assume that the 18 C-1s in the list of 31 that are not in the 1977-1981 list were delivered after that time?
