windows 10 updates

Post by VulcanDriver »

Got updated to the creator version and now I'm getting so many updates it's unreal. Also I lost my access to shared folders on my Windows 7 machine. When I try to connect I'm told I need to speak to the administrator, which is strange as I'm the administrator on both machines!

After a recent update it says I need change my account settings to allow other devices to connect with the Windows 10 machine.

Any help appreciated as to how I can connect to my W7 shared folders and visa versa?

Try this reg patch on your windows 10 machine(s)
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/cannot-ac ... er-windows

I just checked that key on my W10 machine and it currently is set to 0 so that might well be the solution for you.

So are you on Version 1709 the Fall Creators Update or the previous version 1703, which is the Creators Update?

Hi Steve the reg hack worked thanks. I was on the Creators Update but this week I was updated to the Fall Creators Update.

Has anyone installed the W10 fall creators Update ?
I installed it and FS2004 didn't work anymore, had to revert back to the original situation to get it working again.

I have the update installed and FS9 is still working fine for me. Toshiba Satellite Core i7 laptop. However, I have had a similar problem with previous W10 updates and had to run a registry cleaner to get FS9 working again. Hope this helps...

It just stops loading at around 36MB, asked at the MS forum but no results there.
No clue to be honest.
I use the no-cd fs9.exe file for years now but after the fall creators update it just doesn't work

Can't help you I'm afraid as my FS 9 machine still runs W7 and so it will continue. My W10 machine is purely for multi-media use.

36MB? Do you mean 36% when you load a location or do you not even get to the main menu? At 36% it is loading terrain.

I can say that ever since the original release of Win 10 I have used FS9 with the NoCD patch. The only problem I ever had was the black screen issue when you went to fullscreen which turned out to be that that I had changed graphics cards but not updated the config. It didn't matter in win 7/8 but it did in 10. Once the cfg was updated no problem ever since in any version released.

Now it could be a graphic driver thing linked to the card. I am using an nvidia card and using driver 384.94.

If you have got an oldish driver I would try upgrading to the latest version. There was some graphics issues in the beta release.

Also I would rename your fs9.cfg to fs9_safe.cfg and then start fs9 up. It will then build a new fs9.cfg and if this works you can then copy parms over from your safe copy until you hit the error again. You will need things like your joystick settings etc.

Steve,

I mean around 36 MB loading acc the task manager, there is stops.
I tried every compatibility setting with fs9.exe, didn't work.
Have a GTX960 card, and al the updates from Microsoft installed also the drivers.
Problem is if I update again and FS2004 doesn't work I am stuck trying to find a solution, will give it a go this weekend and see what happens.

So you never even get to the main menu?
Where is your installation folder?

OK well if the renaming of the fs9.cfg doesn't work then what I would try is this.
Backup your entire FS9 installation folder.
Also your C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9 folder which contains your fs9.cfg and your C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Flight Simulator Files folder which contains your wx flt and fsuipc.ini files.
Once done then rename or move your FS9 installation folder.

Then find and download both the FS9.0 NoCD patch and the FS9.1 upgrade exe.

Then install again from scratch to the same location as the original. This way any addon that uses the registry to look for your installation will still work.
Once installed rename the FS9.exe to FS9_orig.exe and copy the FS9.0 NoCd file to replace FS9.exe.
Then start up FS9 what it will do is create an fs9.cfg and take you to the main menu. What I have heard is that to get a complete installation you need to load the default flight, a C172 at KSEA, and then exit cleanly.

Now, hopefully you have proved that it is either a setting or an addon that is causing you the problem. IF the clean install doesn't work then I will help you search for a solution but at least you can copy all of your backup files straight over the top and you will have lost nothing.

Anyway, assuming it loads OK...
Now rename the NoCd patch to FS9_NoCD.exe and the FS9_orig.exe to FS9.exe. I believe but can't remember if 100% accurate but the patch looks for the original exe.
Now run the FS9.1 patch. Once that is finished then rename FS9.exe to FS9_91.exe and copy your FS9.1 NoCD patch as FS9.exe.
Again restart FS9 and select the default C172 flight and then exit cleanly.

You should now be in a totally clean and valid state. Now the paranoid among us, or at least the very cautious, would back up the clean install so if anything goes wrong you don't have to go through all this again, just copy the folders over the top of whatever you have.

Now you can start to customize your FS9 back to as you had it before. You can start to copy over parms from your saved fs9.cfg so that you can have your set up back as you did before. If you have a compare program that enables you to see the two side by side and copy bits over it will save you a lot of time.

Once that has been done and fs9 still loads then the next thing to go to is your scenery. There are various ways of doing this but I would recommend that you copy your scenery folder in place so that you have an easy fallback. Once the scenery is copied over then your backup up scenery.cfg needs to replace your current one. Then again try to load fs9.

Then update your textures in exactly the same way that you did with your scenery. After copying all the textures across you will need to replace your terrain.cfg with your backed up one. Try to load again.

Same for Effects.

Hopefully what ever the glitch was has gone and it loads OK, now all you need to do is copy over your Aircraft folder.

With luck all you need now is to check to see what differences you have left to manage, sounds, modules etc.

The chances are that you know all this anyway but it does no harm to write it down just in case.

Let us know if you need any help or if you get any further than you did before.

Ohh a couple of final points, that may or may not have any bearing on your situation.
In my experience, on every update it wipes out my nvidia settings and I have to re-install the latest driver and apply nvidia inspector patches every time.
Also the latest update also wiped out my joystick and throttle settings. So I had to deinstall/reinstall them to be seen.

It might be worth your while de-installing, or at least unplugging your devices, before the upgrade. Also to save time download the latest graphics driver and save to your desktop so you can run it straight after the upgrade.

I'm on another site that uses specialist drivers to control an input device. Every W10 update overwrites the driver so makes the input device useless. Only way around it is to use a utility to add the correct driver again. Luckily I use my input device with a Raspberry Pi so never get this problem.

Well I have installed the fall creators update again and tried to start FS2004 but it still hangs at around 38MB (no main menu visable)
Tried several of Steve's suggestions except a clean install of FS2004 but that didn't work.
Tried to start with a empty "aircraft" folder, no luck but with a empty "addon scenery" folder and numerous times hitting the enter button at startup because scenery.cfg is missing it scenery's it starts.
Then after a lot of restarts adding the scenery's to the "addon scenery" folder I was left with one single .bgl file which prevented FS2004 to start.
This .bgl files never gave any problem before the update but FS2004 works again.

So learned someting new today .... thanks for time en suggestions.

Which was the bgl?
One that you created yourself or one or ours?

It's: MAIW_AF2_RCWH_OBJ.BGL date: 9/28/2014 size 1kb

Not sure if I changed it in any way sinds I downloaded it, came with:

MAIW_AF2_RCWH.bgl
MAIW_RCWH_EXC.BGL
MAIW_RCWH_Scenery.bgl

Ahhh scenery bgl rather than traffic bgl.

Thanks for the info.

I tried to replicate the issue, as I didn't have those 4 4 files active in my sim. So I added them to active folder and FS9 loaded OK. I tried to load up at RCWH and it worked fine so I don't understand the issue.

I would try installing the file again from the original package to see if there was a corruption.
If that doesn't work the only other thing to do is to run Procmon to capture all FS9 events and to see what it was trying to do when it failed.

Downloaded the files again from the download hangar and installed them with the same result; loading hangs around 40MB.
Removed the file and FS2004 loads without any problem.

I am not sure what this 1kb file does, the scenery looks ok without it.
