Hi Guys
I've decided to build a Windows 7 PC that is capable of running FS9 and FSX. I want it to have a SSD or two and a high FPS rate with everything maxed out. I'm thinking of C: for the OS, D: for the sceneries, E: FS9 F: FS9 retro and G: FSX with H: for swap space. I'm looking for recommendations for the CPU, a graphics card, motherboard. Also how much RAM would it need?
TIA
The download hangar is currently disabled. We're doing our best to bring it back as soon as possible.

Hi John
When I built my FS only PC a couple of years ago I used the specs from http://jetlinesystems.com/ go to performance and you will get recommendations for options on processor, ram, graphics card, HDD-SSD. Also info that some things that are good for games are not for Flight Sim.
I then used ebay for parts to suit my budget. I bought a second hand case, motherboard, power supply and DVD drive and win7 operating system. New CPU, RAM, HDD,SSD, graphics card and water cooling. Still cost over £1000. Current specs have moved on since I built mine. Drop me a PM if you want more info.
Regards,
Steve

I presume that your E, F and G drives will be different partitions on the same disk due to the fact that you will not be running more than one sim at the same time.

Re: New Year New PC
Hi Steve
My eBay cart is now at £1,473 for a PC the same spec as the Gravity GT1 which is designed to run FSX. The good news is my neighbour works in the VR industry and can get all the stuff at cost or "free" depending what is in the spares department So hopefully it wont be that much.

Re: New Year New PC
John,
Maybe this won't be of much help, but below is a summary of my current Flight Sim PC that I built several years ago and have upgraded several times since. I ran FS9, FSX and LM P3D v2 on it very successfully for several years when I had just Windows 7 Pro installed, but an abortive initial Windows 10 Creators upgrade crashed and trashed my new Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro dual boot setup, so I have now reconfigured it with only a fresh Windows 7 Pro installation with LM P3D v2, 3 & 4 along with DCS World 1.5 and 2.1 installed.
It runs all of these extremely smoothly so far despite my somewhat out of date overclocked Intel Core i7 2600K CPU. I haven't decided whether to install FS9 and/or FSX on it yet as I do have my FS9 development setup on a different workstation PC that I built. At some point in time I will probably have to build a faster, more powerful up to date system, but this one is still running anything I throw at it very well.

Re: New Year New PC
When I decided to take the plunge into P3Dv4 in July I decided to treat myself to a new box. I was happy with the externals
that I already had so it was only the box I needed:
Case COOLERMASTER CM690 III ADVANCED CASE (GREEN)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-7700k (4.2GHz) 8MB Cache
Motherboard Gigabyte Z270X-Ultra Gaming: ATX, LG1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs - RGB Ready!
Memory (RAM) 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 - DVI, HDMI, 3x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
1st Hard Disk 250GB WD Blue™ 2.5" SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 500MB/sW) ---- OS
2nd Hard Disk 500GB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW) ------P3D
(I also installed a spare 1TB WD Black that I had loafing around for all my utilities and for the Google earth cache &
other bits I did not want cluttering up the SSD's)
DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Power Supply CORSAIR 650W TXm SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Processor Cooling PCS FrostFlow 100 Series High Performance CPU Cooler
Sound Card ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT (Wi-Fi NOT INCLUDED)
USB Options MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Operating System Genuine Windows 10 Home 64 Bit - inc DVD & Licence
Operating System Language United Kingdom - English Language
DVD Recovery Media Windows 10 (64-bit) Home DVD with paper sleeve
I was too lazy to build it myself so bought it from PCSpecialist whom I have had several PC'S from and always been very
happy with. I'm sure you can source the parts more cheaply than I forked out but overall I'm very happy with the result.
I may even get around to sticking in another HDD and installing FS9 again just to see how it goes with my new box.
