New Web Site and Registration

Post by Gene K »

I have a friend who is trying to register, but I can't help him find the site registration button. Suggest a link under the sign in tab on the home page.

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the feedback. I already added a comment to the login module referring people to the forums for registration, but people still seem lost so I'll try something else.

Aha, I see ... now.

You could change the login message to read "Register for the Forums and then log in with your forum account".

There have been some issues recently with people unable to log in.
These were caused by a cookie mismatch and were fixed by deleting all the cookies for 'militaraiworks.com' and 'www.militaryaiworks.com' in your browser. Please try to see if this fixes your issue.

If not, try another browser and see if you get the same issue. Once you have ruled out cookies and a specific browser causing your problem then we can investigate further but we will need some more information should that be necessary.

This seems to be the most logical place to post the error I get. When I log in, and check the "Remember me" checkbox, I am not remembered. If I leave the page and come back, I have to log in again. This is browser-related, I use Chrome Canary as my primary browser, but the error does not occur if I use Firefox.

Thanks -

I admit that I had never heard of Canary, so I had to look it up. The issues sounds like the browser is not saving cookies.

Have you searched for problems with Chrome not saving cookies or even how to enable cookies?

I guess the key question is does it happen for other sites? If it doesn't it sounds like you have somehow managed to set it block cookies from militaryaiworks.
I would check the manage exceptions to see if somehow it is blocked.

I have been having the same problem but double. I use Firefox as primary and IE backup. Have to log in every time - both browsers..

Well with Firefox you can easily check. Download the portable version from PortableApps https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable.

You can put it anywhere and it will not interfere with your registry settings for Firefox.

As it is clean you will have no issues with cookies.
Go to the website and you will have to log in the first time but after that you should have no issue.

Once you have proved that, then you can just delete the Portable versions folder if you like. Now you have proved it works it is a simple case of clearing going in to Manage Data and deleting the cookies for 'militaryaiworks.com' and 'www.militaryaiworks.com' and then go into Exceptions and check that 'militaryaiworks.com' is set to allow and not block, but if you are in any doubt can delete the setting and let it ask you again.

The principle is the same for any other browser. If in doubt try the portable version first and then delete afterwards and then take the same actions as above for that browser.

The obvious problem is that The MS browsers do not have portable versions but at least trying on a any portable version will prove that it is a cookie/setting issue and not something bigger.

Since my post about not being able to stay logged in, Chrome apparently has come out with updates to Canary. The last time I logged into MAIW was on Tuesday, checking the "Remember me" checkbox, and when I opened the MAIW site this morning I was still logged in. So problem gone!

Thanks -

It seems that once again the ploy of telling somebody about something that doesn't work immediately causing it to fix itself has worked again.
