which US bases are the UK F-35Bs at?

Post by VulcanDriver »

Are all the UK pilots training at PAX or are the RAF pilots at an USAF base?

8 F-35B's of the UK contingent were at MCAS Beaufort with 3 further aircraft at Edwards, as at November 2017, when I embarked on the F-35 project. Re-location of some of the aircraft to RAF Marham is due this summer I believe.

JY is completely accurate.
17(R) sqn is at Edwards. All the other aircraft, 12 currently, are at Beaufort. 617 sqn is now officially formed and will depart for Marham with 9 aircraft this summer.

So by my reckoning this means that there are 3 others currently in service. Now initially at least 1 aircraft was assigned to VMFAT-501 for training purposes. My guess would be that the other 2 are as well, and those three plus the two others currently being built will form the basis of 207(R) next summer.

So does this mean there's no UK aircraft at KNHK now?

That is correct, at least as far as a permanent base.

Thanks Steve I'll move them to the bases already mentioned. Will RN and RAF share the same base in the UK?

Yep, 617 followed by 207(R) and 809 Sqn will all be based at Marham, as will the 3rd Sqn (as yet to be named but there is a glaring hole at 15 with the current numbering policy)

Yes I read today that Marham is the F-35 service base for all UK aircraft but the engines will be sent to Turkey for maintenance!
