Thanks for that.

The UH-1 is all Brent's fault. We were discussing the identities of two helicopters in a photo, one parked in front of the other. I thought both were Vipers because on the background aircraft, only the tail boom, engine housing and rotors were visible. Brent however pointed out the small ball on top of the rotor head on the rear one, which identified it as a Venom. He confirmed to me that the Viper and Venom both use the same boom, engine housing and rotors.

Since I didn't have to make those parts again, I thought naively, that it wouldn't be too difficult to make the cabin. The modelling was fine. What really threw me was the width. The plans I used were just not consistent in the 3 views. It took several references to head on photos and models and a re-size/re-map to get it right. I'm glad I did it though, it's quite an attractive and iconic model.

Forgive me if I've missed something but is there a paintkit for these birds?

No, not yet Dale. I just want to see that everything settles down before I upload one.

Just finished installing the Venoms and Vipers along with Camp Pendleton and everything looks incredible. Thanks for all the work that went into creating the Venoms and Vipers along with the Camp Pendleton scenery. It is an outstanding piece of work and thanks for sharing with the MAIW community, much appreciated.

It's been awhile since anyone posted anything on this form. Is there a paint kit made for the Cobras? I want to give a go at some of the operators who still fly the single-engined variants.

Not until a few minutes ago, but I have put one together and sent it for inclusion in the Download Hangar. I've PM'd a temporary link from my Cloud server to you so you don't need to wait for it's availability.

Hi John,

thank you for providing the paint kits.

However I get an error message when I open JYAI_AH-1Z_Cobra_t.psd.

All the other recently uploaded paint kits (C-2s, E-2s, UH-1Y) open fine in PaintNet.

Thanks John

I appreciate your hard work and dedication.

On The UH-1Y paintkit the layer marked Detail is distorted.

The Layer HMLAT-303 does have the detail on. Careful deletion removes the 303 specific items.

Thanks again

Thanks for the uploads John. I just want to point out that the Paint kit for the single engine Cobra is missing. I'm not complaining, I just want to make sure.

That's really annoying. I saved my Paint Shop Pro (.psp) files that I created with my new version (2020 Ultimate) in Photoshop (.psd) format for the paint kit. I didn't think about opening them to check because I've never had a problem doing that. Having done that now, I agree there is distortion in both the Z and the Y .psd files. I've tried it 3 times and each time I get the distortion. Strangely though, there's no problem with the Hawkeye and Greyhound files that I "saved as .psd" in just the same way, this morning.

I then connected up my old PC that has a much much earlier Paint Shop Pro X5 on it - the version I'd used for many years without a problem. I saved the .psp files as .psd and they were absolutely fine. I transferred the .psd files on a memory stick to my new PC and they opened this time without distortion in 2020 Ultimate.

I'm not impressed with PSP 2020 Ultimate. The advertising blurb promised a lot more than my earlier version, but, I've been really disappointed. The desktop icon is particularly troublesome. If I don't get the double click speed just right, the program doesn't open and I have to go to Windows Task Manager to close the application before trying again. I don't have that problem with any other program icon. I think I may revert to PSP X5 on the new PC.

I'll upload a version 2 of the paint kit in the next half an hour and will also include the single AH-1F .psd file.

Sorry about that.
