Conversion help.
I have attached scenery file(s) for Aircraft Shelters which were designed by Miljan for Fs9.
Been playing around with them trying to get the objects to display okay in FSX - without success.
I can convert the textures to DDS format okay, but cannot change the bgl file to have it recognise the DDS format.
Is there anyone who could perhaps have a look at this and hopefully change the necessary settings?
Thanks

Re: Conversion help.
You must change de MDL model file with ModelconverterX (first you nedd to decompil the BGL).
Re: Conversion help.
Stewart,
Try the attached library and let me know if it works.
I just opened the bgl in MCX and changed the textures to call DDS files and re-compiled for FSX.

Thanks Gavin, sad to say that was unsuccessful - shelters are still black.

Re: Conversion help.
Is the converstion from BMP to DDS correct ? You need to flip de texture during conversion.

Re: Conversion help.
Well, I've flipped them, flopped them and just about stood on my head - still black.

Re: Conversion help.
Stew, did you remove the alpha and add a new one?
Something at the back of my mind says that the alphas are different and that is why the textures are black.
The simple way to check would be to remove the alphas completely, leave them off and load up. The fps will not be as good but you will be able to tell if the alpha is the problem or not.

Re: Conversion help.
Okay Steve, will give that a go as well.
I am indeed living proof that Callsign Makers and Researchers should leave textures well alone!!

Re: Conversion help.
Once you have converted the texture to.dds you will have two texture files in the whichever scenery folder you have the object. Ensure the .dds file is the only one there otherwise you get black objects. It's the same with the aircraft when painting them.

Re: Conversion help.
Thank you everyone for all your suggestions/help.
Being from Scotland, I was brought up on Robert the Bruce - you know, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try and try again"
However having been a Police Officer, I tend more towards the wisdom of W.C. Fields;
"It at first you don't succeed - give up and stop making a complete fool of yourself"
Despite all my limited efforts, I still cannot get this problem sorted. If any kind soul can perhaps try and solve the problem, I would be really grateful and who knows, you might get a "well done" from Help the Aged!!
As it stands, I am done with dabbling with things I know nothing about.

Re: Conversion help.
Used DXTBmp tool Steve. Tried several variations of saving etc - even tried swearing at the PC - that didn't work either.

Re: Conversion help.
Have you tried using DGs Texture Manager?
If you like send me a texture and I will convert using it and you can then judge if it works.

Re: Conversion help.
Maybe the textures are not in the correct folder they used to be? Seems the sim can't find it properly...
Regards, Manfred.
Re: Conversion help.
Sorry about that, Stew. Personal stupidity.
