The Twins AI traffic help

Post by hobby »

I have installed Bentwaters and Woodbridge together with their aircraft - all the aircraft can be seen but I have no AI traffic.

I have tried to convert the Ttools text flightplans from Ttools format to FSX.bgls using the latest version of AIFP. Sadly Uncle Sam's AF seems to have overslept for there is no aircraft movement whatsoever at either base.

Can someone please help?

OK, A couple of questions.

Firstly, as we never did a Bentwaters/Woodbridge package can i assume that you mean the ACG package?

Next which aircraft is it that you are trying to install there?

Finally what does AIFP show you in the Aircraft list when you load the flightplans up?

This does indeed sound like the ACG Twins package of Bentwaters and Woodbridge. The FSX version in the Download Hangar includes the AI aircraft and a traffic file "Traffic_ACG_Bentwaters_Woodbridge_1989_FSX" already in FSX format. If I understand what you are saying hobby, you can see the aircraft but they are not moving. That tends to suggest that they and the traffic file are installed OK, but you are viewing the AI at a time when there are few movements - a Saturday or Sunday for example.

Open the traffic file in AIFP and in the Flight Plans section go to the "Timetable" facility and look at the departure times for EGVG and EGVJ on a week day. Pick one of the times and launch the scenery at that time (GMT). Do you see the movement?

John: Thanks for your help. Still finding my way round AIFP - excellent program. I had to insert EGVJ & EGVG into the AIFP database before I could read the 'Timetable' section for those airfields. I was then able to check the 'Timetable' facility as you suggested and all is now working as originally planned.

Is there any way that I can change the C130, F16 and A10 AI models for the more up to date versions? The new F16s look very convincing.

Thanks also to Firebird.

It always was working hobby. You were just observing the aircraft when no movements were scheduled.

You can change the aircraft for the more recent ones in the aircraft.txt component of the traffic file and recompile the .bgl, but you won't have the paints to go with them. The old textures are not mapped to the new models.

Out of curiosity...have you installed johns new A-10's?
you can swap out the old ones in the flight plans for the new ones john produced...there are even repaints produced as I have them on my sim. this can be done via aifp as well....cant remember the exact procedure off the top of my head but when you load a flight plan...the aircraft used are listed on the right of the screen.
now I had installed johns A-10 along with the repaints so they were already but not the aircraft being used.

you select one of the aircraft to change....and I think right click on it and take the option to replace …. a window will now open where you can search down the list of installed aircraft in your sim and select the aircraft to use for that one...

the repaints I had pretty much covered all the bentwaters and woodbridge hogs so it was fairly easy to just do one at a time...there were a few missing but nothing to worry me...I just selected to either remove that aircraft from the plan or use one of the others available...id have two aircraft the same but the scenery is so spread out..its not noticeable.

then finaly...recompile flight plan and eh voila...new shiny hogs.....

good luck

Your version id says FS9 but you are talking about FSX. Can you confirm which version you have the issue with?

Also can you confirm whether you installed the FS9 or the FSX version of the ACG package?

I removed the C-27 flightplans, went to Benson and only 4 random A321s

This is how I did it

Try this for Bentwaters and Woodbridge:

Confirm to yourself that you have the FSX version of the scenery installed (it will have .dds textures) and it's active in the scenery library. If you want to be absolutely sure you don't have a duplicate AFCAD anywhere else, you can disable all other UK scenery in your library.

Confirm to yourself that you have the 4 AI aircraft installed in FSX\simobjects\airplanes, that came with the FSX package:

ACG_HTAI_ F-16C RAF Bentwaters
ACG_HTAI_ HC-130 RAF Woodbridge
ACG_NBAI_Boeing F15C Bitburg AB
ACG_RWAI_ A-10 Twin Bases

Next remove all of your traffic files to a temporary folder, except for:

Traffic_ACG_Bentwaters_Woodbridge_1989_FSX

With your traffic sliders at 100%, go to Bentwaters.

Do you see the F-15Cs and A-10's?

Now go to Woodbridge.

Do you see the A-10s and the HC-130's?

Well you have cleansed your system of FS9 traffic files which is progress.

However some basic stuff is still wrong here. Firstly you mention 4 random A321s at Benson. In which case you have not got rid of the default traffic file. What was the name of the file you deleted?

Secondly, the pics you posted show a flightplan for a Virtavia RF-4. You can not use flyable aircraft and expect them to work. If they did people like John would not spend hundreds of hours creating AI models. You can graft an AI fde onto a flyable model to make it compatible for AI purposes but I would guess that this is currently beyond you, as it is for most people.

I strongly urge you to stick to AI aircraft only to avoid issues.

At the moment I would urge you to selve ALL projects that you have in mind and concentrate on getting Bentwaters/Woodbridge up and running. The reason is simple.
Somebody has gone to the trouble of creating a complete package consisting of scenery, aircraft, schemes and flightplans. All you have to do is install it correctly and traffic will show up.

There are numerous problems that cab happen when trying to create your own plans that will cause it to fail, but until you can install a finished package people will not be able to help you properly as they will not know your level of knowledge. Solving this issue will improve your knowledge of the system.

i hope this makes sense. So forget every other post you have made and follow what John has asked you to do.
Once this issue has been sorted out you able to move on to one of your projects.
