Which version of FSX do you currently have? There are several and at think that two are not compatible with SP2.

Have a read of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft ... imulator_X and it will tell you whether or not you are supposed to install SP2 with your version.

You said previously that you had the FSX Gold Edition. That is already patched to SP2.

What OS are you using?

Also you haven't actually said what the error is. For people to offer their best help we must have the best possible info.

OK Now I want to clear something up.
You said that you had SP2 installed on your old PC and that you copied it over.

So did you actually copy it over or did you install it on your new PC?
Secondly, if you did copy it over why are you trying to install SP2 again?

My Delux version of FSX shows the version number and the patch update (SP2) if I go to Help/about. What does yours say?

Did you read the readme that comes with the SP2 patch?

"Thank you for installing Microsoft® Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2. These notes, instructions, and tips will help you get the most out of the update. You must install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2".

Did you do that?

Please answer the first of my three questions - when you go to help/about, what version information is stated?

It's very difficult trying to help you if we can't determine where you are starting from. Please go to "Help/about" and grab a screen shot of your FSX version number, just as you did for the update failure.

Launch FSX to your default scenario and in windowed mode look at the top ribbon menu. Click the button marked "Help" then "About Microsoft Flight Simulator". Make a screen shot and post here.

Thank you for that, that looks good.

I think this is your problem. I think from previous discussions that your FSX has add-ons, Twin Bases being one of them, Coningsby being another. This is the advice from Microsoft about SP2, also included in the SP install instructions I think:

"Your Flight Simulator X installation must have all original files unchanged: a repair may be necessary if you have changed any files". If you installed an addon that changed the texture or scenery folders, this might have stopped the installation”.

Whenever I have installed the two patches and I've done it a few times now, I've always done it from a fresh install of FSX and I have had no problems.

Also, I know other advice is to make sure you make one flight in FSX with SP 1 installed and then close FSX before installing SP2. You would have done that anyway because SP2 has not installed.

I think what you have to do is either re-install FSX again followed by SP1 and then SP2 or somehow copy your add-ons to another location for safety and then repair FSX from the installation disks then install SP1 and SP2. You can then put the addons back in.

Steve is more adept at this than I am and may have some additional advice.

If it were my installation I would be backing up my addons where I can and reinstalling FSX followed by the two patches. It really depends on how many add-ons you have and what hassle a re-install would give you, but either way, I think you need to get back to a clean installation of FSX before re-applying the two patches.

Hold fire for the moment though until Steve stops by.

The most obvious thing is to copy your complete FSX installation to somewhere safe.

Then de-install FSX.
Re-install FSX.
Start a flight and then end the flight.
If your installation needs SP1 then install SP1. If your base install includes SP1 then install SP2.
Start a flight and then end the flight.

You should now have FSX SP2 up and running.
What you need to do know is to copy over your aircraft and scenery from your saved FSX installation.
All you need to do know is to make any changes to your FSX.cfg and Scenery, cfg that you made before. As you have saved them its relatively easy to copy the relative parts - especially if you have a compare program.
