Last Four F-16C's Depart VT ANG

Post by mikewmac »

The last four F-16C's departed the Burlington Air National Guard Base at KBTV today as the 158th FW focuses on completing construction and training for the arrival of their F-35A's in September.

The departure ceremony was not open to the public, but I was able to watch the four fly line astern directly over my house as they departed to the northwest.

    Hi Chris,

Unfortunately I don't. To my knowledge it was never publicly announced where the F-16C's were going, but most probably another ANG unit needing an upgrade. I would have guessed the Wisconsion ANG, but it has been announced that they will be getting F-35A's in 2023, so I think that probably leaves them out.

The VT ANG flew F-16's for 32 years, so it was a bittersweet day to see them fly over for the last time.

Of course now the local anti-military/anti-F-35 groups are delighted and will be stepping up there negative rhetoric and protests in a last ditch effort to kill the transition to F-35A's.

Ok, guess we'll have to wait and see where the tail#s end up. I'm actually so used to the F-35s out of Luke, I'm excited to see Vipers.

I always enjoyed watching the F-16's doing pattern work while I was a UVM in the late 80's.
