Enabling Scenery

Post by bvanhout »

Hi Greg,

Wonder of you have an answer for me to this.
Whenever I add a scenery to P3Dv4 on my desktop I am asked the enable the MAIW Matrix folders again, however on my laptop it doesn't ask to do this.
As far as I know the installations are the same except on the desktop "Milirary AI Works" is a folder in the main P3Dv4 folder and not so on the laptop.

Regards
Brian

Can you try running P3Dv4 as administrator (right-click on the shortcut -> Run as Adminstrator), then enable all the Matrix stuff in the popups, close P3Dv4 and start it again?

I believe I always run P3Dv4 as administrator, but i'll give it a go and check the result.

Check that each of the MAIW Regions are added to your "add-ons.cfg" which will be located in:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4

The entries should look something like this:

[Package.0]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\AI Traffic-Aircraft
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.1]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Global Libraries
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.2]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Region Africa
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.3]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Region Asia
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.4]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Region Europe
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.5]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Region North America
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.6]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Region Oceania
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
[Package.7]
Path=C:\Users\pete\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\MAIW Region South America
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

That should stop you being asked each time you either start P3Dv4 or install a new scenery.

Pete, I believe that's the issue indeed.

On some setups, the changes that P3D makes to the add-on.cfg (by enabling all addons via the popups) aren't saved when P3D is not run as administrator.

These entries are all present in the "add-ons.cfg".
This only happens when I have added new scenery, and it is only the MAIW folders that P3D asks to enable again.

Did a quick test. BTW I use Lorbi to add/remove scenery.
Checked the add-on.cfg and all MAIW entries pleasant.
Removed a scenery using Lorbi, saved the file and when I checked the add-on.cfg the MAIW folders were not present.

Ah well I don't have Lorbi's tool and don't have the issue, so I'm afraid I can't help you.

I also use the Lorby tool but have never had this problem. The only thing I can think of is that both MATRIX & The Lorbi-si tool should be used as Administrator. Where are your P3D & MATRIX folders located ? If it’s in the program files folder this can cause problems. Best to keep all non windows programs well away from the windows environment.

P3D and Matrix are on a second HDD. Al programmes are run as administrator. Its not a major issue, was just wondering why the desktop and laptop were different.

I'm afraid there is nothing else I can think of. Perhaps another user may be able to assist. Sri

I am guessing that the cause is UAC.

What is the full pathname of the the two pathnames of your "Military AI Works" folders?

If the add-ons.cfg is showing the correct info then my guess would that the folder on your desktop is in a UAC protected folder.
