E-2 Hawkeye and C-2 Greyhound

Post by John Young »

While I was waiting on the final bits for the Jet Provost packages, I made a head start on the E-2 Hawkeye models. This is what I'm planning to do if my research is correct (Gmax screen shots):

E-2D standard configuration:

Image

The radome is animated at 6 RPM and rotation is triggered at 400ft.

Alternative E-2D (and E-2C) with animated wing fold:

Belly mounted Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) platform on the D model only:

E-2C standard configuration (USN, Japan and France):

E-2D with inflight refuelling probe and top fuselage blister:

I'll also make an E-2C with 4 bladed props and hopefully we can also produce a "wet" FDE for static carrier operation. I haven't thought much yet about paints, but that's likely to be the US Navy squadrons plus France and Japan.

I think the Greyhound should be pretty straight forward, but I won't be doing that until the E-2's are done.

My new Windows 10 PC arrives tomorrow, so I'll take a few days to get that up and running and I'll then move on to designing the texture sheet and mapping the surfaces of the E-2's.

Please post if there's something else needed E-2-wise, apart from what I've outlined. Better to know that before the mapping.

Wow !!! Great job. It's a promising model.

I've a little suggestion. For the wet model, is it possible to add chains for the parked aircraft ? for the aircraft on the deck of carrier (SBAI made this detail for his Su-33 naval).

(I hope my English is good enough to explain the chains ;-) )

Could you do an early model with four bladed props for us retro lovers?

This is awesome! Really looking forward to this!

You know I don't think I ever saw a photo of a Hawkeye with a refueling probe before. I honestly did not know a Hawkeye can do inflight refueling.

Would it be possible to repaint the 8 Egyptian and 4 Taiwanese aircraft still on active service please?

I'll add the 8 Egyptian and 4 Taiwanese aircraft to the list.

The refuelling probe reference material was indeed very sparse, particularly the right hand side where it angles down. A top view would also have been useful.

My thanks to Darren for alerting me to a glaring error. I've put 6-bladed props on the models. They should be 8-bladed and I'll change those of course.

What a pleasant surprise to see this bird finally properly done. When I see John producing models like crazy I feel bad that I have no time to dedicate to FS this days.

Looks great John!

Will definitely get good use of the 4-bladed C model(s). You mentioned the E-2C, would you consider a 4-bladed C-2A? That would be a great companion.

In any event - thanks in advance for these (and for the released Provosts too - can't wait to start playing with those!).
