I have just read this morning that patch #2 is being released soon, 16-20 Sep, and this will update various elements in game rather than installation and stability issues. The article here lists what is updated. https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-f ... e-imminent.

I will be hoping that it fixes the 747 performance issues mentioned by Tim.

I have been busy the last couple of weeks finishing the P3D Coningsby for Johns Typhoon but also converting the scenery to Fs2020.

Here is a screen of how it is so far. The most time consuming part for me is that I am slowly adding PBR textures to the models to take advantage of the rendering engine.

Wow! This looks brilliant so far!
There seems to be a lot of hope getting back all our fave airbases into MSFS some time....

That is stunning - and gives a huge insight into how good this sim could be.

I managed to carve out an hour in the sim and took a trip through the world famous 'Mach Loop' yesterday, it's absolutely fantastic...a million miles better and more immersive than other flightsim's. This I straight out of the box with no mods or addons used. Can't wait for some fast jets aircraft.

Enjoy,
Dale

I did the 'loop myself last night with a wingman in tow. Flying it in the CJ4 is a little challenging, really looking forward to a worthy fast jet to do it 'properly' :)

Gents,
Can somebody answer a couple of questions for me please?
Have they activated UHF radios for mil airfields?
Also does anybody know if TACAN has been installed in game as well.

No and no, as far as I can tell.

ATC is very similar to the FS9/FSX system. Slightly better voiced, but really not much advanced. I’m not sure anyone at Asobo really understands the aviation environment, so, again, the airspace and navigation components are very similar to the older sims.

On the other hand, it does appear that there’s an intent to improve this stuff as feedback comes in - though I suspect they’re only just beginning to realise how big a task that will be! To date, the focus has been on the visual environment and the flight model and not a lot else.

Thanks for that. Tim. They do seem like really obvious upgrades for such a detailed sim.

Enjoy the updated Japan scenery that has just been made available in game.

Is it out? I thought it was scheduled for 30th Sep. I picked up the update from the other day (no SDK update in that), but that didn’t include Japan.

Edit: ok, just checked the development stream. The next update is released on 29th Sept. There is a small SDK update, but it’s mostly about accommodating 3DS Max 2021 and some scenery-placing improvements. SDK updates are planned weekly for October.

Are the updates being incorporated into the primary downloads or does the user install the original release and then update from within it?

Yes, John. It’s done from within the loaded program. It’s not like the P3D system where you reinstall the whole thing.

I just found something on Steam, when looking at the game. Ignoring the fact that we in the UK are again being ripped off with a flat transfer of dollar to pound sterling cost, what it says is 'Requires 3rd-Party Account: Xbox Live'.

Is this true, or is it true if you buy it through Steam?

First I've heard of that. I've not seen anyone mention it, and I have to say I don't think it's accurate. As far as I'm aware, the Steam installation is the same once-only buy as it is direct from Microsoft. There's no requirement to have an XBox Live account to run the game, and the only other way of paying for it is via the Game Pass subscription (which is not the same as XBox Live).

As for pricing, obviously the US pricing doesn't include State taxes, which are always added after you've committed to buy and add between 4% and 10% to the price. In retrospect, I wouldn't buy the Premium or Deluxe Premium editions. They only add a few aeroplanes and airports to the deal, and there will be far better freeware versions of those to be had before long. When you bear in mind that the PMDG 777 Base package for P3D is $135 (+VAT) for a single aircraft type (and a further $30 if you want any liveries), the price for MSFS seems pretty reasonable!

The way I look at it is that FS2004 cost me £40 and so far has last me 16 years. That is £2.50 a year and I don't think too many people south of Hadrians Wall will quibble about that value.
I think it will be the same for Microsoft Flight Simulator. I am not against the cost per se, just the fact that seemingly everything is auto translated across.

I will admit it is the first time I had heard about a license. I just saw it on the Steam Store, in its app. Rather surprising, so I thought I would see if anybody bought it through Steam and whether or not there was any issue.

Yep, you need a Microsoft account to log in with. I bought it through Steam, and had to use my MS account as part of the install process.
It is a no drama process :) just an extra login and password to remember....

If you have a Microsoft account you are good. (So if you’ve used hotmail, or office 365 you’ll have an account already.
