Don has now got AIFP working for FS20, using default AI aircraft. However, the post following his linked below gives a link to a procedure for importing FSX AI into FS20. Looks like we may be getting close to MAIW for FS20!

This really is a heads up for people with the sim. If they could report back on whether it is accurate or not it would be useful.

It seems that there is a limit of around 50 active AI aircraft and then the game CTD.
Now whether this is online AI, offline AI or a mixture of both I do not have any info on.

Any experiences here would be helpful.

It does appear that for now there is a hard limit to how many live AI flight plan sectors the sim can cope with before a CTD. But of course the SDK for AI is not available as yet, so the nuts and bolts are speculation only. From what's been reported, I suspect that Asobo will be able to get to the bottom of the CTDs fairly easily once they have time to turn their attention to AI, but I wonder how high up their list of priorities that will be? In the meantime, it's astonishing how much progress has been made by third party developers without access to a working SDK!

Thanks for the feedback, Tim.
I agree that progress has been made primarily due to the deep understanding of how things used to work and how it might have been amended rather that anything that that has been done, so far, at the MS end.

I am guessing that AI is quite low down on their priorities as it is meant primarily as a flight simulator rather then the best darned screensaver in the world.

Yeah no rotorcraft in the sim as of yet so guessing that's on the horizon??

Eventually, of course. But Asobo are giving no clues as to when they will be introduced to the sim.

Well I guess the helicopter came several decades after the aeroplane so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.

What does give me hope is that if they haven't touched the flight dynamics of the helo yet then when they do it could/should be used by AI helos as well.

Not bad for a 15 year old model from an archaic, outdated, antiquated, obsolete flightsim version!

Sorry but I do not remember every expression that was used here to describe FS9 during the last few months.

Awesome repaint Mark - and it is not even cartoonish looking due to the converted model.

SDK 0.7.0 is out. No significant changes from an AI perspective. There have been no changes to the documentation since 0.5.0, so it's a bit difficult to tell what's changed. There are some changes to the animated sample files. Apparently, jetways now work.

It sounds like progress - just not as we know it.

For something a little closer to progress, we also have the arrival of P3Dv5.1 and its rather more complete SDK!

Good Day Mark,

Are you making these Iris mods available for download anywhere? I was really happy (and surprised) when David posted his excitement and support for port/conversions of his products for the new sim. I am really hoping that his A-10A gets converted soon by someone.

Sincerely, Preston

Thanks for the info.
It is nice to see that some of the AI features are getting sorted.

Someone was taking AI plans from AIG and converting them to MSFS without permission, they contested it and the addons seems to have been removed from nexus, but it did show it's probably easy to convert FSX Flight plans (and I assume P3D) to MSFS.

Asobo have released a development timeline, showing roughly when they expect to introduce new features or address identified problems. AI is pretty much at the bottom of the list, with no defined year (years are all they give!) for attention. The list covers up to 2023 so far, so we can safely say that AI will essentially not be addressable by MAIW until after 2022. I was afraid that this might be the case; there are too many other things requiring attention, and their focus is of course on the first-person pilot experience.

So really that confirms that, for the next couple of years, AI development is best concentrated on P3Dv5 (and 4.5). On the other hand, airfield and scenery development for MSFS is coming on, though every new iteration of the SDK seems to take designers back to square 1!

Honestly I just want the Canadian air bases haha.

Someone improved CYQQ, no custom models or anything (though there's some custom textures), but it's better than default, which didn't even have any parking, just runways.

Wow, reading that list, that's pretty disappointing. I haven't been paying too much attention to this sim just yet but it seems to be a lot further behind than I would have expected for it to have been released already.

They must have followed LockMar's example of the F-35, just release it and we'll fix it after the fact.

What do you say boys, FS9 for at least another 2 years!!!!

Maybe that's enough time to convert everything over to P3D already just in time to have to convert it so FS2020?? /ducks
