I don't think the RA or A-5 has ever been done as an AI... But has been done a few times as a flyable aircraft...

Nope, sadly not, Mark. This is one of the aircraft I always wanted as an AI. Very elegant looking…

Can I just be clear - is a Skyraider and Vigilante wanted (FSX and P3D)? If so, the former came in all shapes and sizes, what would be the most popular version(s).

Both aircraft are great but the Skyraider came in more types..All the way from the 1940's in to the late 60's..The RA-5. / A-5 is just a great looking aircraft..

I first came across the Vigilante when i got the Airfix kit as a kid. I couldn't believe that I wasn't aware of such a great looking aircraft. I was also surprised by its size and the fact that it operated from a Carrier.

I'll be pleased to take on the Vigilante, having done some research this morning.

I'll make the RA-5C I think, which was the last and most prolific version spanning 150 aircraft in 10 squadrons. This version has the "hump" in the top line of the fuselage, which I think just adds to it's beauty. The aircraft were based at Turner AFB Albany, Georgia, later renamed to NAS Albany, when not at sea. I'll research that airfield next to see what can be done.

I'll also try a "wet" FDE for anyone who might like that and provide a separate model with wing and nose fold, but I'm not intending to set up carrier operations. I think I might make an exception in this case though, and provide FS9 models also.

"Warpaint" has a nice publication specifically on the RA-5C, so I will order that today. I can then involve the painters here if they would like to take on some of the schemes.

Update on the basing. The Vigilantes moved from Albany to NAS Key West (KNQX) in 1974 and remained there until 1980 when they retired.

Looking at the default scenery, both P3Dv4 and V5 have a reasonable KNQX, while FSX is not far behind. FS9 default though is pretty sparse. Do we have anything already made that might come in useful please?

John Stinstrom has released NAS Key West (KNQX) some years ago, it is part of the MAIW VFA-106 Gladiators package

Been using the old Alphasim RA-5C model for years as AI but far better to have a JY AI version - very good news!

Love this aircraft. Like Steve, I discovered it from an Airfix kit. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one in reality.

KNQX is in the MAIW library somewhere. (Edit - sorry, missed Randy’s post).

I can paint the camo Martin, but the dayglo tail is on a different model. I'm sure the Warpaint book, when it arrives, will have lots of interesting schemes for the RA-5C.
