Anybody want more (simple) scenery?

Post by Jim »

I have previously uploaded a few simple air bases I made to the forum to accomodate some folks traffic here. I've been enjojing myself making a large number more of places where I could find no existing scenery. (Sorry if I missed some!)
I've gone for volume before quality I'm afraid, but would be glad to share. I'd love it if any of my simple renditions were improved upon and re-uploaded.

Some already have traffic from MAIW or elsewhere, and others might inspire some talented folk to paint more. I mostly use object libraries from Matrix. I have P3D v4.5, so usually include .ad4 files if that helps anyone convert.

Here are some examples. If interested I have well over 100 more!

Firstly Africa/Asia

HE16 Birma/Tanta Egypt N30* 50.1938',E30* 56.1589',5.49M
FS9 EGY_MIL Mirage 5 flightplans call this airport HE0G, but I changed them to stock P3D ICAO code for my own use.

VAJM Jamnagar India N22* 27.9900',E70* 00.6900',21.03M
Accomodates MiG-29 & Jaguar traffic.

RKSW Suwon S.Korea N37* 14.4000',E127* 00.4000',26.82M
By far, my most ambitious scenery with rivers and a hilly area. Needs F-5 traffic, so have used static library "ROKAF F-5.bgl" meantime (not included). Does include a heli overlay (with a fictional code):
1KSW N37* 14.8200',E127* 00.5742',26.82M

Plus Europe

LAFK Tiranë Heliport Albania N41* 18.6630',E19* 52.7982',230.00M
A small grass area for EC145 traffic. I also added the adjacent military heliport (with a fictional code) for AS532:
1AFK Farkë N41* 18.8778',E19* 52.9380',250.00M

1BPD Krumovo/Plovdiv Bulgaria N42* 03.9084',E24* 50.6283',181.96M
I have made a retro version and a modern one since I noticed it now has a busy outdoor aircraft museum. I can't include the models, so you can have fun like I did hunting them down. (Needs models for my flightplan + static An-2 & MiG-15UTI.)
Both versions accompany Alex Miles' LBPD host airport scenery with an enlarged flatten/exclude area to include the heliport.
There are several helicopters out there and traffic flightplans using LBPD can be diverted to 1BPD (fictional code). LBPD can accomodate retro mil fixed wing traffic with some simple taxi/parking mods to Alex's scenery.

ESNF Färila Sweden N61* 53.8833',E15* 42.3167',206.04M
This is a retro air base incorporating 3 adjacent road strips. Lacking traffic, I placed some static Viggens.
It can be much enhanced by FS9 objects by Lennart Bergqvist on rbdesign.se (ESFQ Kosta, ESKS Strängnäs, ESKX Björkvik, ESOH Hagfors.)

Plus Bonus?

RD01 Adelsheim W.Germany N49* 22.1328',E09* 26.3664',344.00M
A simple retro highway strip. One of far too many I made (with fictional codes) from info on https://www.mil-airfields.de/index-en.html. This one uses a couple of vehicles from "EuroMil_Objects_JS_FSX.BGL" (included with Matrix).

Wow. this pack of sceneries seems to be good. But obviously not for FS9. I've tried to convert some of theses sceneries to FS9 but not possible....

Sorry about that Foufure, I'd hoped that ADE would be able to re-compile them backwards.

I've only had to do that the other way round (with some successes and failures). Does it not read xxx.ad4 without the P3D SDK?

OK, if I start ADE as 'FS9' then my .ad4 and .bgl files give the error "File contains FSX elements and cannot be loaded in ADE9".

If anyone knows what these elements might be, then perhaps I could do something?

It is things like fences, roads and terrain elements. The full list can be found in the ADE manual. It is the same with AFX. You can load an FSX afcad but it warns that certain features are lost when saved as an FS9 afcad.

Perhaps the easiest way to see the differences is to save the source as xml in both FSX and FS9 and then compare the two,

Hello again Foufure,
Does VAJM_ADEP4_JFM.bgl work for you? It has no vehicle parking or paths and opens OK in ADE for me as FS9.

Thanks Steve,
I'll look for the list (as seems I can only save an FS9 XML once I remove offending items eg. hold_short_no_draws). If I can make FS9-friendly versions I'll consider doing so, though it could take a while.

Jim, I tried one into AFX, 1KSW, and it loaded fine with the warnings but when it saving it dumped the runway.

I did get around the issue.
If you load ADE up in FS9 mode, and ensure that under you project settings you have Projects compile set to 'With Project File' and Save Xml set to 'With Project File'.
Now when you load up the P4 bgl and then compile it, you will get a compile error but crucially it does still save the xml file, with the errors.

The error report showed:-

Code: Select all

Compiler Errors Found. These were not identified by the Issue Manager. Please let us know
what the compiler error is so that we can improve the Issue Manager.

The compiler message is shown below

Parse complete!
The errors at the end pointed me to the issue. It did not find start points #10 and #12.
Looking at the TaxiwayPoint data for Index 10 and 12 I saw that both were type="HOLD_SHORT_NO_DRAW".
I figured that this type was unknown to FS9, as you alluded to above, so I amended the source for both index to type="HOLD_SHORT" and compiled it manually.
Not only did it compile but the runway showed up in AFX.

I hope this helps, but if you need any help feel free to pm me and I will provide help, source and compiles that you need.

I appreciate the help Steve.
Meanwhile I'd found all (?) the deviant features by trial and error.

Here's the note I have included for folks to at least be able to edit/compile in FS9 if they are keen to get any going in their sim:

"I have renamed my airport sceneries from ADEP4 to ADE9 here and made the following changes to try and let FS9 users edit, compile & use them:
Removed any 0 ALT polys leaving only altitude flattens.
Removed vehicle parking and changed roads to closed taxiways.
Changed hold_short_nodraws to hold_shorts.
Removed boundary fences.
Removed extra starts and renamed runways with disallowed designators.

I have NOT included combined terrain flattens for heli overlays outwith host airports, so you might have to create one.
I have NOT enlarged parking spots, so you may need to do that for your FS9 AI."

After dipping my toe, I've plunged in. First pack uploaded.
If I can, I'll see if I can make FS9-friendly versions later.

Thanks for these Jim, just wanted to confirm I only need the Part2 for the modern airbase ADE layouts? Will be testing these in P3Dv5.

Correct Chris. I'm not sure how consistent I've been for consigning a base to retro, but probably 'cause it's been bulldozed or somehow looks very different nowadays.
Some bases in Part2 may no longer have traffic, but are still there, so you can take what you like.

There are Asian, African & a couple of S.American in the upload queue too. Nothing special, but hopefully better than nothing.

While some packs are in the upload queue, I've been working on making them usable for FS9.

During this, I've discovered a few errors in the P3D versions however. The biggest is that my comment on my 1GGG heli overlay said it was for the UGGG stock scenery. Sorry, but it requires Alexander Svonidze's 'UGTB Tbilisi (Lichini)' P3Dv2 scenery from AvSimRus. (btw it's called UGTB, but operates with ICAO code UGGG.) It does not align with the stock P3D scenery.
FS9 users might try his preceding version (he gives a link), as altitude and alignment look OK to me in ADE.

Z15I somehow appears in both Asian packs.

These others have some/all hold shorts missing: VVPB, OJ38, OJHR, ORAA, ORAT, VEGK and highway strips RD07, RD50, RD54, RS01, RS10, RS26, RS27.

I can upload pack revisions almost immediately, or wait and see if anybody notices any other issues.

Users always want things immediately, but some times it is prudent to wait to see if any bugs crept it.
My vote would be to wait a short while.

Slowly working my way around to them in P3Dv5.3. As a longtime DCS player, I have never compared the P3D scenery for Georgia until now.

I appreciate you taking a look Chris,

I can't remember why I picked their airfields, but remember thinking (apart from Tblisi) how quiet they looked on Google Earth; post war with Russia of course. I don't think I even have Soviet era traffic for Georgia.

Google Earth's as close as I've been to almost all of them, so plenty scope for improvement!

Victory103 has got me looking at Tblisi UGGG and adjacent UG24. Some horrible cliffs either side of the latter have troubled me, though my UG24 is less bad than default (and disabling FreemeshX doesn't help).

I've just found that turning off AF2_UGTB_CVX.bgl in the Tblisi scenery I mentioned above makes things a lot better and dropping UG24 from 381m to 351m may be as good as I could do.

The area may be crying out for P3Dv5's sloping airfields?
