KLSV Nellis AFB - P3Dv4

Post by ejoiner »

Hi Guys, as many years as Ive been doing this, I find myself having forgotten how to fix what is probably a basic thing.

I have the MAIW military airbases installed. For the most part they are superior to the default P3D bases. This is the case with KLSV (Nellis AFB). I have it installed, but it fights with the default KLSV. Buildings on top of each other, etc.
I want to remove or otherwise comment out, the default Nellis base in favor of the MAIW version. How do I do this?

I am afraid that KLSV is built into the default Las vegas bgl in the NAMW scenery file.

Please let me know what you think here.

Do you have any Orbx regions installed, more specifically the Southern California one?

Go to : ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_NA_SCA05_SCENERY\scenery and rename .OFF the following files

ADE_FTX_SCA_KLSV.BGL
ADE_FTX_SCA_KLSV_CVX.BGL
FTX_SCA_objects_KLSV_PLC.BGL

Yeah, that. I've made a habit of checking for extra files in the Orbx folder any time I install new scenery.

I accidently deleted my Nellis AFCAD file for P3Dv4 and cant find it anywhere on the site. Can someone direct me where to find the nellis package or afcad for p3d? "KLSV_ADEP4_MAIW" I believe was the file name.

It's not really as simple as that. There are about 11 files in the MAIW P3Dv4 version of KLSV, plus the traffic files, textures and any generic or custom library objects the airfield uses. It's not difficult to convert the FS9 version to work in P3D4, but you need to be familiar with ADE and MCX.

Strictly speaking, we're not supposed to share individual airfields from Matrix as the permissions that were sought and given for using the various authors' packages were specifically for the entire Matrix product. I know the 'management' are still considering if and how to release the converted airfields individually, or whether the Matrix collection could be released as a conventional self-install package rather than in the Matrix program wrapper, but as yet - as far as I know - those decisions have not been made, or have been rejected.

It's worth learning the skills to convert these old FS9 packages, as several aren't in Matrix, either because the airfields were no longer in use when Matrix - which intended to represent only up-to-date prototypical operations - was released, or because the airfields had changed too much, or the conversion team ran out of time before Matrix was abandoned. It really isn't difficult to do, and there is a tutorial on the site here.

I don't think there was a problem with what you did Ray, as it was to replace a file WB383 had accidentally deleted. My post was more to explain to zsoltfireman why we can't just put the Matrix airfields on here to share without a blessing from the management team.

Sorry for the regen thread, didn't save a copy while trying to add J. Vile's "curved approach" technique with the latest ADE 1.79 to both KLAS and KLSV. On Nellis, I only went into "Approach Mode" to add the approach, yet somehow lost all the custom MAIW scenery (replaced with stock autogen) in the compile process.

If you (re)compile a scenery using ADE then it will drop all of the unknown objects.
What you have to do is make sure that each library that adds an object is known to the Library Object Manager. You can list all of the objects used in a scenery and it will tell you which lib they are from. Any unknown will be removed.

For you what you have to do is reinstall the scenery and then add all of the libs to the LOM and then re-add the approaches. This may be a big job to start with but over time you will have more libs known and it becomes less of a chore.

Unless this behaviour is unique to the FS9 version of ADE, it's not the case in my experience. I frequently update airfields without loading the scenery libraries into LOM, and I've never lost one yet. The objects are black and may well have no footprint info, but the information held by ADE is simply positioning and orientation of a GUID. As long as that is retained (and it should be), there is no need for ADE to have any knowledge of what those GUIDs represent.

It's more likely that the version of the airfield loaded into ADE was not the one originally intended for modification (did you load the Stock airport?). The way to avoid that is to allow ADE to name the airfield save according to its own protocols rather than as it is listed in the MAIW folders. Only once the modifications have been completed and verified should you first remove the MAIW original (I have a special 'retired' folder for this) and replace it with your new version. Even then there is no need to use the MAIW name; indeed, to avoid sharing unauthorised modifications I would suggest that you don't!

Fortunately it should be easy to recover the MAIW original, unless you're using one of the P3Dv4 versions distributed in Matrix. If that's the case, I probably have what you need.

Thanks Tim, yes this was the MAIW version and not the stock P3Dv5.3 version. My intent was to look over adding the approach or change the MAIW Matrix version to more accurately flow closer to IRL at Nellis with runways 3L/R for departure only and 21s for recovery. Found an older thread on FSD covering approaches and dove in. This can of worms happened to be opened as I looked at adding Jetmax's KINS (Creech) for my MQ-9s that never had a home and starting checking on my Nellis/Vegas area AI. Along the way I had stock versions of other Las Vegas airports like VGT. Jetmax's Vol II are made for FS9 with MAIW libraries.

I am going back in and properly adding ADE to v5.3 based on Scruffyduck's and threads here on removing P3D stock data etc, following the proper steps this time. I'm running ADE 1.79.xxxx test for P3Dv5.3.
