CT-142 Gonzo request

Post by gavinc »

Hi,
I'm not sure if people are aware but there is a version of the CT-142 "Gonzo" modeled in the newly released AIG Dash-8 100 package.

I prevailed upon Jay to make the model when he was doing the Dash-8 series and I am (slowly and badly) repainting the model.

However my paint skills really are non-existent so I was wondering if one of the people with talent would consider taking on the task.

Thanks
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

I had the 4 of them done up for the TFS model. I'll see if I can find my files, it's been a long time since I've done any painting.

If Darren can't find his old files I can take them on (already have the paintkit)

Hi Jon,
It would be great if you could (I was hoping you would volunteer :-) ). The CT-142 is quite distinct from a standard -100 which is why Jay created a separate model.

WIP. Huge thanks to Darren for the Roundel, Flag, and Sqaudron Patch. Will be working on adjusting the paint color for the main body (needs to darken up some).

Many thanks Jon for doing these repaints. Thanks also to Darren for his technical advice and assistance.

I am attaching a totally bogus flight plan that will get them moving around a bit. I will be trying to do a more realistic flightplan in the near future but at the moment the Real World is interfering in my flight sim time (bad real world bad).

Hello,

I would like to use the Gonzo in FS9, too.

Can you show me where I can get the model, please?

They would suit well in the freeware Winnipeg Scenery of Gregory Putz.

@Jon

May I ask if you painted all four Gonzos of RCAF?

Thanks for your help!

Sorry Asdro - The AIG Dash-8 series is for FSX / P3D / MSFS only. They use modeling techniques that can't be back ported to FS9

A few months late with this reply but, failing the AIG model being available, there is always the option of stripping back the Premier Aircraft Design Gonzo model (no panels, sounds, etc) and using that for AI. I have done this using some paints provided by another author, and which might be available online. Since there are so few, and Winnipeg is a pretty sparsely populated area for AI in any case, this might be a viable option. There may be FDE changes to get it to fly well as AI, although it may just go fine as it is.

It's also possible to backport models for other sims into FS9, although you have to accept that some functionality might need to be mildly re-engineered due to model changes etc. and that some aspects such as PBR simply won't backport at all. The same with sceneries for other sims, that are often even easier to do.

FSX and later introduced the MDLX model format, which was quite a leap since FS9's aircraft used FS2002's MDL8 format even though FS9's scenery had advanced to MDL9, but it's not too difficult to work back from MDLX to MDL8 despite considerable differences. The process does take up some time, so it's not something to be undertaken on a whim.
