Simconnect

Post by VulcanDriver »

Hi Guys

I'm trying to get Simconnect to work in FSX on Windows 11. When I install the software that needs Simconnect it tells me it's not installed.

Where does Simconnect install to?

TIA
John

It should already be installed in the FSX main directory, at least it is for the Steam version.

I know that at least one version of FSX did not have the sdk with it. Simconnect is included in the SDK. It may be the case that if you have that version then you may need to get that and install it.

I would search your system for it. If you use the default MS search you might want to use the Voidtools Everything proggie instead. Amazingly fast and the portable version works just as well.

Thanks Steve. I have the SDK I'll search for it and see what comes up.

I've found version 10.0.61259.0, which the application requires, in the windows/winsxs/fusion folder however the application can't find it.

Any ideas?

I have just done an Everything search on my PC and found 23 occurrences of simconnect.dll, for FSX and MSFS, in various applications.
It maybe a simple case that each application needs a copy.

Now having said that if the app needs it in its own folder then it should be installed as part of it, as carious apps I have installed do.

I do have two versions in windows\winsxs\fusion subfolders, including the one you want, but they are for MSFS.

As i said I found that simconnect.dll is in the base FSX folder on my PC. Try that. It is the only thing that makes sense that matches what I have on my system.
I can't go any further because you don't say what the application is.

Hi Steve

I'm trying to install the VRS TacPack. now it saying it cant find the simconnect client. There is no error log that I can find so I dont know where its looking. The forums seem to be closed. I've given up on it and I'm using the non-TacPack version of the VRS F/A 18E.

A little check found that TacPack only supported the initial version of the Steam version so if you have an updated Steam version of FSX then it seems it won't work.

Secondly have you tried uninstalling the simconnect sdk and reinstalling. Either the TacPack is finding the wrong version of simconnect or the correct version is not installed.

I would check those.

Hi Steve I've got the bog standard FSX which would explain that.

Maybe I wrote that wrong but what I meant was only the initial version of FSX:SE was supported. As far as I know all versions of the boxed game were supported.
Try the uninstall/reinstall of simconnect for the version that you need

Did that and still no joy. I've given up with TacPack. Without VRS support forums I'm stuck. Also I've run out of activations, limited to 4.
