F-35 Fin Flashes

Post by Reggie »

Are the F-35 units allowed the normal unit fin flashes, or do they have to remain “stealthy” with the gray RA paint? I’m wanting to try my hand at repainting the 187th and the 301st as they are transitioning.

Many thanks.

Depends on the nation. What makes me say that is that the Danes have just received their first 4 and they have toned down markings, i.e pale red and off white, rather than the grey shades of other nations.
It has to be the make-up of the paint rather than the colour that is the most important thing.

This article has details https://theaviationist.com/2023/09/14/f ... n-denmark/ which should make painters happy.

Reggie, not sure how much the LO is comprised on the tails as living next to Luke AFB I have yet to see any additional flashy paint work unlike the "CAG/CO" USMC F-35Bs. Does make me wonder if the 187th will paint at least 1 with red tails.
Recent RNLAF F-35 tail:
