Resources for Modelling

Post by nickblack423 »

Well I'm going to make a start on this forum as well to keep the moderators happy. Here is a great website I found while researching that has a great collection of Military aircraft 3 views for modelling.

Link no longer valid. - moderators

Check it out!

If people want to add their own resources here it'd make a great little collection.

I found these threads over at the jbAI forums :

http://jbai-aircraft.com/forum/index.php?topic=590.0

http://jbai-aircraft.com/forum/index.php?topic=591.0

No idea if these are of any help to the modellers among us - it's all magic to me - but just thought to let you know...

Cheers,

Sites on the web

Post by Topcat66 »

Here are some aircraft profile plans sites that I have been using over the past several years:

(I'm not certain as to why the Url designations are not working; any suggestions?)

Freeware listings

-Sky Corner Virtual Aviation Reference (VAR) Aviation Drawings site . Russian language based site with a well organized and wide range of coverage. I consider this site to be a real goldmine. Organized by time period and country of origin. Many are scans from books or magazines. Some of the individual links to drawings are broken (i.e UH-60 drawing).

-Werewolf’s Aircraft Drawings, Page 1

-Werewolf’s Aircraft Drawings, Page 2
Another Russian language site with a much smaller number of drawings.

- Vought Aircraft Line Drawings
Limited to Vought and LTV aircraft, but covers nearly the entire range.

Pay sites

-Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum resources

-Aviation News Magazine Aircraft Plans Service

- Assorted magazine indexes (only thru 1997/1998)

-Aeroflight Distributors’ listing of book and magazine sources
Many of the individual book/magazine sub-sites include detailed index listings.

-Michael A. Morrow’s Aero Aces site
Mostly flying scale model plans, some pay, some free, many not so much “scale.” There are some gems if you take the time to look around.

I hope that this helps others.

A few more below that I found when searching for repainting stuff for creating my own textures. Good tutorials and a great colour swatch here:

For Russian stuff, try http://www.airwar.ru/main.html
Not terribly easy to navigate, but it has enormous amounts of info and lots of huge detailed diagrams.
It'd probably help navigation if I could read Russian

So, you have to do it when right, top and back pics are not in scale already.
Then you have a function Scale in FSDS.
You synchronize right and top pics using aircraft length.
You synchronize back and top pics using aircraft wing span.

Gents,

Quite a number of links on the FSDS modeling no longer work.
Does anyone know where I can find an easy to follow tutorial "FSDS for dummies" as I am a total rookie and would like to learn from scratch..

I got real excited when I found this one, but it turns out its mostly for "real" models but there are still some interesting walk-arounds and painting resources. I have not run across any 3-views in there yet, though.

Found this one today: http://uscockpits.com/

Has quite a few good shots of instrument panels that can be "pasted" to the panel part.
