A hard question for me Andras, as Mr Scorpio9999 could answer best.
I think that some modelers just underestimate LOD importance.
The modeler was not sure if he design AI or flyable model as well.
First LOD project is the hardest one but it took me one week now to make An-2 LODs from scratch, including testing.
He's using gmax so project LOD management is different than in FSDS (less comfortable I think).
Also - when you try to design competitive models in one bigger group (like MAIW here ) then you just HAVE TO stick to the standards, not to be kicked off the mainstream
Anushka may be released as standalone really soon, to fill GA needs and it's not impossible that MAIW package(s) will follow.

Thanks Graham and Ford, that clarifies a few things, but also adds one more question;
Am I right to assume then that a LOD is a representation/skin of the model and every LOD is the same aircraft (or same other item) with different level of details, which would then mean, FS has to be "told" to load certain LOD's at certain distances ??

Yes indeed mate. When making a model in FSDS etc, you specify the LOD number and FS does the rest...i.e. works out at what distance to show that model. Each one is a different stage of the model. I use the main model and copy it into each Level, removing some parts along the way, replacing some parts with smaller poly parts, less detailed, until the last LOD is only a few shapes to represent the shape of the aircraft.
FS also uses the next LOD down to generate the shadow. e.g LOD1 has LOD2 as its shadow.
I will explain much more detailed to you when you get to that stage in your modelling if that is what you are getting at. PM me when you need help or add me to MSN Messenger and we can chat.

So is there nothing that we can do here to help this guy add LODs to the Fencer? If the model is as good as it seems there is an opportunity here to help each other, especially if he is already building other Russian aircraft that we can use.
I do realize that I am able to contribute absolutely nothing personally here, but its worth asking the question.

The best solution is that they would learn LOD need for themselves.
Have you seen that?:

I think it will take one of you making a Russian aircraft...decked out with all of our latest witchcraft...to get these modelers thinking about things like LODs.
If we have our own SU-24 and release some Russian packages...those folks will start to notice.

Not at all, Steve. Really, it is night and day. We wouldn't make the packages that we do if Henry had done only a one-LOD, 3500 poly F-16. Shaw AFB would be a slideshow.
You can say the same thing with the commercial side. The only reason I can have lots of traffic at a place like KDFW is because of multi-LOD aircraft. Even then the fps still drops

Mig-25 is available to download from here:

OK ...
relatively simple but one LOD only, again ...:

That was reasonably easy, Luciano :
Code: Select all
dark engine - ?????? ?????? äâčăŕň ňĺěíűé
nose - ??? íîń
anti-blick(?) - ???????? ŕíňčáëčę
fuselage tone(?) - ??? ?????? ôîí ôţçĺë˙
shadows - ???? Ňĺíč
wing underside - ??? ????? Íčç ęđűëŕ
cabin - ?????? ?????? Ôîíŕđü ęŕáčíű
panel lines - ??? Řâű
misc.(let's say) - ??? ????? ôîí ëčńňŕ
=> see also last layer 'Background' info.
