Spent a large chunk of my design time over the Christmas period trying to remove a "dent" in the top wing surface caused by chopping out the recesses for the air brakes. It wasn't too noticeable in FS9 but the additional strength of the lighting in FSX caused it to stand out like a saw thumb, particularly on the anti-flash white models. Whatever I tried, I just made matters worse. In the end I remade the wings twice and now I'm happy again.

Mike M (Magic Mike) tested the FDE for me and made some useful suggestions which I have carried out and tested. Firstly at Bruntingthorpe in the UK:

I then detached a flight of 4 Vulcans to Tonopah in the USA for some high altitude (5549ft) VFR circuits to get the aircraft to land on the centre line. With Mike's advice I have learned how to do that:

I just have some paintwork to modify and I'll start duplicating and numbering the aircraft to put into my Waddington retro scenery. I'll also send interim test packages to Andy and Steve at ACG who are working on some ambient occlusion lighting and the sound package respectively.

John has done a great job on his JYAI Vulcan models and they are even more impressive when watched in FS.

John, you can't hold yourself responsible for people wetting themselves. :D

That's really good to know guys. I've just finalised the Squadrons, types and serial numbers that I want to use for the 24 Vulcans to go into Waddington (circa 1982'ish). I'll start setting them up tomorrow.

My AI Vulcans are now at home at Waddington. I've picked 1982 as the year that probably saw the most varieties, although the K2s might not have been there for a few months later. Here's the parking arrangement:

Image

I have not put the hose and drogue on the K2 because it really needs a reduction in the aircraft cruising speed from 500 Knots to 250 Knots to allow users intercepting the tanker to catch up. I would also need to delete Mike M's contrail effect that would otherwise obscure the drogue. I could do it though with seperate aircraft packs and additional documentation. More work, but I'll do it if people are desperate for it.

A special treat for FSX users is the custom sound pack produced by Steve at ACG (Military Sound Studios). My stomach was shaking as I took this screen shot:

Image

The only down side is that with 2 smoke effects per engine x 4 engines a 4 aircraft = a drop in frame rate for a few minutes of 40% in FS9 and 50% in FSX. Worth it though.

The scenery was produced 5 years ago and although it's Gmax it's not as efficient as my later airfields. It also uses tools for the ground layout that I no longer have installed or can probably remember how to use, so I can't really change much. A complete re-work would take months. Here's one of the dispersals:

Image

I've sent links to the pre-release packages to the people I have been working with on the project so that they can have a play with them. If there are an additional 6 people here (3 FS9 and 3 FSX) who would lke to do the same, please PM me and tell me your sim version and I'll send the links. I'll post again when I have the 6. I'd particularly like to know if the manual is clear. If all goes well, I can then upload to flightsim.com and Avsim next weekend.

I have also been asked if it would be possible to make scenery models of all the static Vulcans that are on airfields around the UK. I will do that while people are having a play with the AI. I've actually included the textures for most of them in the AI packs anyway so that will help.

EGHH has the nose section of an unknown B2 cut aft of the cockpit. If you fancy doing a scenery object feel free :D
