From Wikipedia: The S-3 was retired from front-line fleet service aboard aircraft carriers by the US Navy in January 2009, with its missions being assumed by other platforms such as the P-3C Orion, Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk, and Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Several aircraft were flown by Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Thirty (VX-30) at Naval Base Ventura County / NAS Point Mugu, California for range clearance and surveillance operations on the NAVAIR Point Mugu Range until 2016, and one S-3 is operated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the NASA Glenn Research Center.

Ohhhhh, how I would love to see my beloved Viking flying in FS again. I worked on her from 1985-1988 with VS-41 at North Island. I was a jet engine mechanic, and my wife was an electrican. It's where we met :)

;-)

And you can also envisage that on the USN and USMC H53 heli, for a naval version using on ships decks ;-)

Here is an update on my upcoming S-3 vikings. Finishing different layouts and starting on the textures. For now there are models for the S3, ES3 and US3, with/without folding wings, tie downs, fuel tanks, cargo pods, maverick and harpoon missiles. I am also working on a deploying refuelling basket, so you can simulate refuelling from a viking.

Here are 2 shots from the ES3 and US3,
before someone asks, at the moment I am not planning on a carrier fde. But at a later point I might reconsider it.

Outstanding update, the deployed basket model will get plenty of use around the boat.

Not just around the boat! More Drogue tankers the better I say!

Flying around, and getting low on fuel? The tanker is inbound.

The animation is now triggered at 6000 feet. Does anyone know at what altitude the Viking would have been refuelling other aircraft?

For the moment still only for FS9, I do not have much spare time at the moment, but this can change in the future.

Per the manual, 1500' AGL is the minimum during the day and 2500' at night. The program I use for boat flying (vLSO) allows one to adjust the tanker alt.

From reading "Flight of the Intruder" and "The Intruders" by Stephen Coontz, he had the KA-6D's flying "low station" at 5000ft, and high station at 18000 or higher depending on weather.... of course.. my memory isn't that great....

Point Mugu has a new Bloodhound:

And Pax River also has a new bird:

and a line up of "some" more:

58 different textures, from all squadrons that operated the Viking.
Now trying to finish the cfg and air files, it is my first try at it, and I am hoping for an early Christmas present for you all.

Looking great! Looks like there's a few issues with the top of your wings and the smoothing groups you are using. Looks like FSDS is shading those parts in a funny way. You can probably fix that fairly easily if you want.

The Hoovers look great! They will be a wonderful addition to FS. Just a quick note on the US-3's; they don't have the wingtip pods that the S-3 and ES-3 variants have. I don't know if it is something you want to change at this point but they just have regular rounded wingtips.

Thank you Chris for mentioning the wingtips, I completely overlooked it. It is an easy change to make.

Mike, if you now how to fix the shading of the wings, I would be thrilled. I have been trying to change it for weeks, but no result so far.
