Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
John I did extending drogues on the KC-135R models. Wasn't very hard to do and looks ok coming out of and going back into the pods.
For FSX I can see the drogues being a detriment to the aircraft's parking radius. Not a factor in FS9 of course. You can always add it later on if you want.

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Mike, how did you coil a considerable length of hose into each pod and still produce a sag in the hoses when deployed? That sounds like a very difficult bone animation with a lot of polygons. I steered clear of that for my RAF Victors and just did a simple appear/disappear according to the altitude trigger.

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Eight cylinder sections, each hinged at the front end, each one is a child part of the one in front of it. There's not much sag in it as that was going to be a major PITA to build and animate in there but I think you could just rotate each head of each cylinder to produce an ever increasing angle. In real life the sag only comes into play when the receiver plugs in and relieves the tension on the hose, otherwise the hose trails fairly taught the whole time.John Young wrote:Mike, how did you coil a considerable length of hose into each pod and still produce a sag in the hoses when deployed? Each section 'hides' inside the pod as it gets 'retracted'. The animation is not perfect but unless someone is right there when the model starts the animation, you don't even see it. The trigger for all the boom/drogue animations on the model is altitude between FL200-240 and pitch attitude 0*.
Hope that helps. I wanted to do it because the only other model of a KC-135 out there that had the hoses, had them deployed the entire time, looked kinda silly when taking off or landing.
Also Mike MacIntyre deserves a big shout out as well. For the refueling versions, he created an FDE that made the model cruise at a much slower (~250 kias) speed. If he hadn't done so, a user aircraft would have a hard time trying to refuel from the normal model as its cruise speed would be too fast to keep up with.

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Johns 767 models were cruising almost exactly at 300kts indicated at FL225. The Coral F-15 model is in the lower range of the throttle there and was actually using touches of the speed brake to keep position. It was very easy to keep in position on the JYAI 767 tanker models once I learned what the proper position looked like in reference to the bottom of the tanker.MIKE JG wrote: For the refueling versions, he created an FDE that made the model cruise at a much slower (~250 kias) speed. Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
The high end fighters don't have a problem keeping up or catching up, the A-10 on the other hand.....
I had an A-10 pilot once tell me that they had two throttle positions, Full and idle. He said there wasn't much need for anything in between. I read an article recently where an F-14 pilot told a story about providing CAS over Afghanistan during the early days of OEF. Heavily loaded D model Tomcats had to refuel with one engine in afterburner the whole time to compensate for the weight of the weapons load and the increasing weight from the fuel as it was taken on board. Crazy stuff!

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Joking aside, I have the aerosoft A-10, so I will load it up tonight and try to chase the USAF KC-46A models and see how well it works out.
Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Fantastic as usual John! Another masterpiece!!!
At present I've looked only the Italian model, and I've found a couple of little problems.
The 14-03 doesn't show up in FS9, cause two wrong rows in the cfg:
sim=JYAI_KC-767_no_doors
model=KC-767_Italy_boom
must be:
sim=JYAI_KC-767
model=KC-767_Italy_no_doors
The Italy_boom model is not in the package.
The FP have the 14-01 flying TNG every hour (every day). This interfere with the FP of the Pratica Airshow package if installed, causing lot of problems to the aircraft of that pack.
I've reinstalled the FP from Pratica package.
Thanks again, Giorgio

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
Results of the tanker compatibility testing from tonight. The Aerosoft A-10 will in fact not keep up with the tanker at FL225. It can only maintain 260kts indicated at that altitude while at full throttle in in good trim... but, I think there is still hope. climbing to altitude, I was able to keep in wingtip formation with the KC-767J I was chasing right up to about FL180, then I started falling behind. I think a tanker track down near the minimum boom altitude will allow it to keep up.
Other user flyable models that kept up perfectly:
FS KBT F-2A:
Virtavia F-4:
Mike Stones B-52:
Okay, so the last one may have been less about testing and more about seeing if I could pull off getting the beast in position.

Re: Boeing 767 Military Derivatives
That's good to hear. I recall reading somewhere that in order to refuel A-10s, the KC-135 has to slow to about its slowest practical clean speed while the Hog has to go about as fast as it can to keep up. So your tests seem to confirm that.

clickclickdoh, I know this is a bit off topic but where did you get that Virtavia F-4 paint? I have been looking for a Japanese Virtavia F-4 paint for a while but haven't been able to find one.
