JYAI Tornado home mod for FS9

Post by Firebird »

Gents,
Although you couldn't supply this as an implace feature, due to us not having the authority, there is nothing to prevent you following these instructions to mod your Tornado for an improved experience.

1. Download the reverser_fx_fs9.zip from Avsim from here - https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?C ... DLID=64515
2. Place the "imp_large_a.wav" file from that zip into your FS9\Sounds folder
3. Make a copy of the "fx_nicks_tchdwn_s.fx" supplied by JY and found in your FS9\Effects folder and call it "fx_nicks_tchdwn_s_rev.fx"
4. Open "fx_nicks_tchdwn_s_rev.fx" in any text editor that you prefer to use.
5. Replace line 4

Code: Select all

Display Name=NICKS LEAR and SMALL JET SERIES TOUCHDOWN EFFECT WITH VORTEX
with these 3 lines

Code: Select all

Display Name=NICKS LEAR and SMALL JET SERIES TOUCHDOWN EFFECT WITH VORTEX, Sound by Thorsten Reichert 2005
Sound=6
Sound Param=1
6. Using your text editor again open any JYAI Tornado aircraft.cfg
7. Under the [Effects] section amend the line :-

Code: Select all

touchdown = fx_nicks_tchdwn_s, 1
to

Code: Select all

touchdown = fx_nicks_tchdwn_s_rev, 1
and save it.
8. Give that aircraft type a try in the sim and listen to the aircraft land.

If you like it amend all the other JYAI Tornados to match. If you don't then simply reverse out the change [ no pun intended ] in the aircraft.cfg file.

It goes without saying that you can also use the same effect file for any other aircraft that uses athrust reverser e.g. Viggen.

Now this works for FS9.
It may or may not work for FSX/P3D due to the inbuilt sound library index having different file names for each system. If the FSX or P3D library names for sound effects can be found then this mod can be amended for those systems too.
If anybody tries it for those systems then gets positive resuts let us know what you did.

Thanks Steve, it works fine.
Now I became curious and checked my Effects folder for "sound=".
Is is used with "1", "5" and "6" in several of my effects (about 1800) with various Param=.

I could not find an explanation in the fs2004SDK for these things.

Is there another way to find out what means "1", "5", and so on (and Params?)

Glad you found it useful.

I tried to find an official doc as well and failed.
All I found was a post by Tom Gibson found in several places one being here :- https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threa ... ge.438674/.

Where he got the info from I have not found out.
What it does do is list what sound files are used with which parms.

If an official doc is found then fantastic. Also if different sound files are found then you could name them according to the chart and then use an effect to call them.
Another effect than can also be called is 'startup' so you could have a startup sound effect come in as well as smoke.

I tried to listen to all these wav files mentioned in the link, but only few of them were in my fs9 sound folder...

That could be fine, because I could use a random wav file and rename it to such a "not found" file.
(and use it in an effect..)

:smt115

I have to test it...

That is how I understand it, that only a few are installed which give you plenty of scope to find sound files and rename them for use in this manner.

Yes, it works this way.

Is there a way to control the volume of this effects?
By a slider of the sound options?

From one of the posts I found they recommend pushing the environment sound up to 100%.
I guess anybody that knows how to manipulate sound samples could probably increase the builtin volume.

Yes, you are right.
Environment controls the sounds from outside (AI engines too)
