When you look in your FSX SDK folder on your hard drive, and then in the modeling sdk folder, then the 3DSM7 folder and finally, the Plugins folder, do you see the xtomdl.exe file?

Well if you are in options and you are clicking on the specific option and it doesn't give you a small requestor with 3 dots to click on then somehow you haven't installed it correctly.

I would try uninstalling and re-installing it but do not place it in the MS protected folders, just in case that is causing you the problem - which I doubt.

MCX is easy to install - it doesn't even register with Windows. You just copy the downloaded files to a folder of your choice and run the .exe file to start the program. You do need Microsft.NET Framework V2.0 and V4.0 (Development Release) according to the installation notes, but if MCX has worked for you before then you probably have those already.

Same question from 3 days ago:

In other words, is the problem with MCX or is it with the FSX SDK?

For the third time of asking, when you look in your FSX SDK folder on your hard drive, and then in the modeling sdk folder, then the 3DSM7 folder and finally, the Plugins folder, do you see the xtomdl.exe file?

I'm shutting down for today now, so I'm assuming that you will find your xtomdl.exe file since you're saying it's an MCX problem. When you do, would you please right click the file name to bring up the properties menu. Open the "Details" tab. What version number do you have?

Like John, I am not convinced that you have the SDK installed.

I checked exactly what John said and I found this on my system :-
D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM7\Plugins\XToMdl.exe

So ignoring the top level, as you would probably have installed it to a different location to me, the question still have to be are you sure that you have installed the FSX SDK?

Well if you did in would be in your Windows Apps as being installed, i.e. it gives you the option to uninstall it.

I would check that if your don't have that path name.

That presumably now enables you to produce the correct fighter pen for Middle Wallop. Look forward to seeing it.

I'm not sure what you mean by that Brandon. Do you mean that Sketchup wont save the actual texture file, or do you mean SketchUp won't save the material setting you have applied to the model?

If it's the former then SketchUp shouldn't save the texture - it should be in a folder of your choice somewhere and SketchUp just refers to it. If SketchUp is not saving the material name and map, then are you sure you are applying it correctly?

I don't know how ShetchUp works because I use Gmax but the process may be similar.

Tell me the steps you are following to specify the texture and mapping and I'll see if I can spot a problem.

Sorry, that may not have been too clear, but I can't amend it.

What you are applying to the model in SketchUp is a "Material" not a texture. The texture (.dds) will be in a texture folder in the aircraft root as most people will be familiar with. The "Material" will be a 24 bit image (.bmp usually) of the same name, that's in a folder of your choice. You will specify a path to this material when you come to map it to the model in SketchUp.

I use Sketchup 8, when the app wants to save textures it will save them in Music/MODEL NAME as .JPEGs. I use Music as it is an empty folder
