Great! And another question, are you able to make repaints for flyable aircraft or just AI Aircraft?

I can do both

Brandon, don't go around the same abortive loop again. Just pause and think and ask yourself these questions:

- What sim version are you being asked to paint for?

- What flyable aircraft are you going to paint?

- Is it available for FS9, FSX or P3Dv4 - what's needed?

- Do you have permission to paint the flyable aircraft?

- Does a paint kit exist for it?

There's quite a few photos of N19TB on the net but watch the colour casts. The aircraft now resides in Seattle I believe.

The F-8K repaint is for the MPAI F-8K_Dry. I am currently unable to do nose art. The repaint depicts it in the 1990s.

Brandon, is this the finished paint?

Are you using a layered paint program to paint this and if so, are all the relevant layers switched on in your screen shot?

Also what colour have you painted the tail badge, the serial number and fin tip cheques?

I have the art as a transparent image if you would like it?

Much thanks

Hi John,
I am using MS Paint, not sure if its a layered paint program.
Tail badge is the same colour as the one in the artwork.
Serial/N-Reg are black.
Fin tip cheques are yellow and black like they are on the artwork

Hi Mark,
How do I apply the nose art?

ConcordeBOAF wrote: 30 May 2019, 15:23 Hi Mark,

I will send you a link to the image in a pm, i have never actually used MSPaint to do repaints and wouldnt have thought it possible to acheive a good looking finished repaint as you can only load 1 image at a time i believe? so as far as i can tell you are painting over a bmp file and not using the layered paint kits that come with almost every ai model out there, thus covering over all details such as rivets and panel lines and any other markings it may have. There are free options for Graphics software such as GIMP,Paint.NET.. etc

Much thanks

Mark

My bad I use Paint.net

Stop for a minute Brandon and just take stock. I want you to be successful this time.

The reason I asked if you were using a layered paint program is that in your screen shot, the aircraft is missing some of the useful layers that are in Mike's paint kit, like the panel lines and the gun pod blisters on the nose.

You will know if you can paint layers because if you have imported Mike's .psd file into MS Paint successfully, it will be still be in layers and you can switch on the added detail you need before saving a copy as a single layer for the texture. Can you do that?

If it's not possible, are you painting a single layer image? If you are, how did you get to it?

Rather than rush in, you need to study photographs of the subject. Not just one image but several. I'm convinced after doing that, that the tail badge is not black, it's blue, as is the serial number. The fin tip cheques are yellow and blue and the squares are of equal size.

To import Mark's image, copy and paste it as a separate layer then resize it to the right size and position it, but let's be clear what you are working with first.

Seems a lot easier. Time for a re do.

For goodness sake. Just stop for a moment and communicate clearly.

What seems a lot easier - working in layers or copying and pasting?

Do you have this plug in installed?

I think this is what the Tail Logo should look like! most images are quite small to get the full detail, so i just made a quick example, once resized and in place it will look good.

Im with John, the amount of time he has given you on 2 seperate projects deserves proper responses and not minimal answers after all he is doing his upmost to help you every way he can!

Much thanks

I'm not quite tearing my hair out again Mark, but it's important that we know what Brandon is working with. Those two bits of artwork are a great find but a layered approach to using them would be so much better than working with a single image.

If Brandon has the plug in he should be able to import Mikes paint kit layers and make use of them.

I just wish he would answer the question and tell us rather than keep going around in circles not getting things right.

Apologies Mark and John,
I downloaded the plug in John gave me the link to. It works. This should allow me to do the repaint. When I have done the repaint all I need to do is save the .psd as a .bmp, correct?
If so, I have found that doing lots/whole paint makes the aircraft go black and textureless. I have photos to prove this.
Hopefully this makes things a little clearer.

John i do have them as a transparent layer, i have sent the first one i did a a psp file and will send the 2nd the same way.

I remember whan i first started repainting about 10 years ago, i had the same lack of knowledge but did not like asking for help, so i just learnt by trial and error. :) but i do have a graphics background which helped!
Much thanks

The .psd files work to be painted

Brandon , so with the plug in working fine, you can now import the paint kit and work on individual layers and save the file in the Paint.net format that preserves the layers.

When you have finished the paint, you can then select which layers are needed and export them as a separate single layer.bmp image, ideally with a different file name so you don't overwrite anything.

That image is the one that's loaded into DxtBmp along with the alpha channel to produce the texture for whatever sim version you want.

Give the layers a try and see how you get on.

As I said to you a few times so far, send me the problem texture and I'll see if I can tell you what's causing the problem. You have my e-mail address.

Mark, I would be surprised if Brandon can open a .psp file. He may need the images in .psd format. Although I use PSP for all my work, my paint kits are in .psd format because not even lower number versions of PSP will open files produced in a later PSP version.
