Crows nest only fitted to Royal Navy mk2 merlins. Italian navy use a different AEW radar, fitted to their navy AW101's under front fuselage similar to our mk2 fitted radar, but bigger!

I'm already working on the AEW version of my Mk.2 Merlin.

Thanks John. Will you be making the models for all 3 sim versions?

The original one was converted by MAIW.

I think between John B and the FSX/P3D Conversion Team, we have the Merlin AEW (Crowsnest) covered, so I'll leave that one alone.

I have though produced the HC3 model that the Royal Navy inherited from the RAF. There are two still in service at Yeovilton, but are shortly to be converted to the full HC4 standard and presumably a grey paint scheme. I'll provide those textures too so users can use them with the HC4 model after they return to service. I can also provide a retro set of the RAF textures for the HC3's as they were then.

In the meantime, back to The Royal Navy:

I'm working to complete the Yeovilton packages (Wildcat and Merlin) and I'll get those out before I get into further HC4 variants.

Don't want to hijack this thread so I'll start my own one but here is the Merlin Crowsnest. WIP.

I think the green is a bit too pristine on the HC4, so I'll probably dirty it up just a tad when I come to number up the Merlins (next job). I've changed out the Wildcat tail rotor disk with a less pronounced red ring. Once the Merlin's are numbered up, I just have the museum cafe buildings to make and add to Brian's Yeovilton scenery and I should be about ready to document and assemble the packages.

The Merlin variants are taking about 30 hours each to modify and paint for FS9 and FSX/P3D, largely due to different window arrangements.

This is the Norwegian AW101 (10 examples):

and the Canadian (CH-149 Cormorant - 14 examples):

I'm planning to make the Danish and Italian versions too. However, the dilemma for this lot is scenery. Being SAR helicopters, they tend to be dispersed around 3 or 4 bases per country, so for 4 variants x 3 bases and 3 sim versions = 36 sceneries to find and modify with an AFCAD overlay plus flight plans. That's not something I really want to take on.

I will probably release as aircraft only and hope that people will make use of them and share their AFCADs and flight plans, rather than being left to sit in the MAIW Hangar.

Please say if anyone is intending to do anything. That will encourage me to do more.

John

Love the Norwegian ones John
I have seen a couple of these as they drop into my local at Humberside for fuel on their delivery flights

Hi John,
Like everyone else says - just lovely.

I will be having a go at making some sort of a package for the Canadian models. AFCADs and flight plans are not something I usually get involved in so it will be a change from conversions. This being the brief gap between snow and mosquitos in my part of Canada it will probably be a while before I get something that is worthy of uploading but I will be trying.

Those Norwegians are stunning!
Will there be a paint kit for the Merlin? I'd like to paint up some export Merlins so thought I'd check before i make a start.

Too early for a paint kit I'm afraid. I'm deciding what variant I will make and paint next as I go along. Once I have closed the packages, I'll provide a paint kit then. Remember also that my work is based on the HC4, not on the Royal Navy versions that John has made, but I have yet to look at the Italian's. I'm on the Danish at the moment.

These are 14 Danish EH-101's - 8 are used for SAR and 6 for troop transport.:

It looks like the whole fleet is now painted in an overall green. However, for the period around 2007 to 2013, photographs indicate that the SAR component also bore bright yellow dayglo panels. In anticipation of confirmation of that, I have provided alternative textures for 8 of the helicopters in the dayglo scheme for anyone who wants a retro set up. This is Rescue 02:

I'm going to take a look at the Italians next.
